I recently had the pleasure of drivingmy Margay thru a steady rain for about 2 hours while driving home. Defibately got it dirty! After getting hone i opened the rod locker to see a little bit of water in the bottom. Not much but a couple puddles. Didnt think much of it and left it to dry this last week. Now… Since it was a nice day finally i thought it best to open the lids and let everythi g dry and wash it uo to get the grime off. Upon opening my 2 front side compartments, i find 3″ of water sitti g in both of them and obviously not draining. So my question is are they supposed to have drain holes? If not, can they be added to the bottom and it will drain correctly to the bilge area? Thanks ahead for any answers you have…Jared
Margays are sealed lower and we dont know where you can drill them for drains. The center rod storage we believe can be in the center sump, though only one specific area. We dont know on the right and left storages and we will have to have someone who knows comment.
Basscat-Any update on this question?Thanks,Jared
Jared,I will say that mine does not get wet in rain but if enough water comes over the bow and floods the deck say on a really wavy windy day the left side box will take water as well as the center. I have not found a way to prevent it as my guess is the sudden flood of water is too much for the channeling to handle. I just live with it as it is only a couple of times a year for me.good luck
Living in Podunk Iowa I took an extended trip to get the motor serviced on a very rainy day. So my issue was wind driven rain from driving down the highway at 65mph and it seemed to funnel into them! I agree there are certain circumstances where water will probably get into them, so Im not looking to keep them sealed from water, more of wanting to get a drain in them if possible. Its a lot easier to dry them out if its only wet carpet versus 3″ of water in it. I ended up pailing out most of the water and then using a shop vac on the rest. Then a couple days drying. If it was just wet carpet I could just open the lids and let dry a couple days…Jared
First, What year model is this Margay. IF it is not a new one we do have some suggestions. They are working on identifying drain locations, though honestly that is more than the moderators are able to assist with and becomes a dealer service issue if you want to add drains. There is too much variance and ability to make a major screw up. BCB
BCB-It is a 2016 model. Unfortunately for me, the closest dealer is a good 5 hours away, so I doubt I would ever get/ have time to drive that far away for just adding a drain.Jared
I had a 2012 Margay which I sold last year. Great little boat. However; there were serious drainage issues with the compartments. There was also a leak in the well of the boat. Water was leaking from somewhere under the little cooler that is also utilized as a step onto the front deck. The Bass Cat moderators of this board posted that a fix was in the works within a month or two. The fix never came, was never posted, even though I posted again about the issues with leaking hatches, drainage, and my mystery leak.My impression was that Bass Cat really didnt care about the issue. Since that time I have read numerous threads such as this one and it appears that the song remains the same. I suggest that Bass Cat provide a disclaimer about the Margay and let folks know that over the past four years since the Margay went back into production, the issue continues to be chronic.I consider this a customer service issue. It was not handled appropriately with me, and I trust everyone else that posts about this will get the same la-di-da. I do disagree with the Bass Cat moderator here. The issue impresses me as a manufacturing defect or design flaw. It has been reported much too often on this board to be brushed of as a dealer issue. And therein lies the problem… though that is my own opinion and everyone is entitled to their own.Seriously considering a new Sabre FTD with a 175 Evinrude G2.CraigLast edited by cjrich on April 13th, 2017, 11:18 pm, edited 4 times in total.
There should be trim on later models and they changed the interior foam attempting to reduce moisture blowing when towing.
I believe you are barking up the wrong tree searching for a way to drain the compartments, A 2016 boat compartments should not leak. Dont mistake my comments to be a slam against bass cat because I love the boat. I did own several Ranger boats however over 20 years ago and none of the compartments leaked on any of them. I washed my carpet on a regular basis and when doing so used my water hose with a spray nozzle while standing in the boat to wash out soap residue,All my bass cats, which were bought new, have leaked in various compartments. It normally has taken me a month or so to find and fix them after getting the boat home after purchase. Believe you would be better served to fix the leaks rather than make a drain.
