I have an 08 Cougar FTD, and in the last year I have gone through several batteries. (4 battery system and only killing trolling batteries one at a time and randomly) Something on my boat is killing them. I have a Noco Genius charger and I have tested it according to Noco and it is doing what it is suppose to. I checked the TM plug and receiver connection, cleaned them up and all looks good. Outside of rewiring the entire system I am at a loss. Any suggestions? I am running a Tour Edition 109 Motor Guide which is the only thing on those batteries. Thanks in advance for any help. Battery type? Voltage 1 hour after charger off?How long batteries last? If theyre lead acid is water level stable over multiple cycles?Last edited by clownshoes on February 13th, 2017, 1:50 pm, edited 1 time in total.C.O.D. Jr. III
Several have reported problems with the NOCO. Clearly you cant get that many random bad batteries in a single year, unless your batteries are made by some of the off brand companies like NoGood, NotWorthACrap or whatever. Since the TM applies the same load to all the batteries with their being hooked up in series, it is almost certainly the charger. I fought this battle 15 years ago with a Dual-Pro charger. Had it replaced under warranty. Eventually threw it in the trash under warranty. 2008 Pantera Classic2014 Mercury Pro XS 200
Not saying this is a charger problem. But I will mention my nocco was just not giving me the charge I was after. Through many test with a volt meter Im come to the conclusion my nocco was charging. Just not bringing the batteries to a FULL charge. Wasnt for sure if a faulty charger or a safety factor. Best thing I ever done was purchased a lester charger for the troller batteries. Same batteries, full charge. My problem solved. As for me and my boat I will never own another on board charger.2013 PANTERA 2MERCURY 200 PRO XSMINNKOTA 80LB FORTREX25 fury
Unplugged Genius charger this morning around 11, checked batteries at 4:15 and all of them were between 13.03 and 13.36 They are Duracell Deep Cycle 31 series, water is good in all. I have tested the charger according to Noco, Plug in charger and it charges to 14.60 on all 4 banks. Thanks, JR
You will have to have a competent electrical person check the parasitic voltage (amperage) drain on your boat and engine. Something is drawing current at a high rate, if you have Power Poles added these can be a culprit.

Thanks, JRAfter surface charge has dissipated, in a wet cell battery, full charge should be around 12.6-12.7. Your readings still sound like float voltages. It is probable that you have not waited long enough for the surface charge to wear off. I would check again in the morning and you should see readings like I stated.
12.4 to 12.8 are fully charged batteries, we have seen them hold to 13.2 in rare instances.
So the poster says only troller batteries are losing voltage. So this brings up another question. Are there anything hooked to the trollers besides the trolling motor. Do you unplug your trolling motor plug in between uses. If not could something in your troller be draining the battery. Guess Im guessing and drawing straws.2013 PANTERA 2MERCURY 200 PRO XSMINNKOTA 80LB FORTREX25 fury
Will unplug batteries tonight and check again in the am. The three deep cycle batteries are exclusive to the TM, and it stays unplugged from the boat when not on the water. I dont have shallow water anchors so that cant be it? Thanks everyone for the replys, will post voltage in the am. JR
