I have a 2013 p2 with 200 pro xs and Im running a 25 tempest plus. Holeshot is awesome, well when its not loaded down with everything I own in the front of the boat. Never really messed with the jack plate or pvs plugs. Best Mph was 73.6. Im usually running 69 to 70 with a buddy and 71 by myself and I think its the weight in the front of the boat. Ive heard you should run a4 blade prop in the spring and a 3 blade in the summer. Not sure if its true or makes a difference. But any suggestions on how to go a lil faster? Going to take out alot ofweight and spread it around more towards the back compartments, but just looking at other options that dont say go buy an eyra lol. Thanks jeff
I had an old style croxton razor 4 24p on a 2011 p2, Mercury 200 proxs, smooth but hard to get rpms, they are pitched stiff. Could not get past 5450 rpms.Slower than both the fury and tempest at all plate heights. Search and you will see older posts by gchangler that may help.I sold the boat (replaced with another bcb) and traded the prop for a spare fury.Croxton is very open to discussing this on the phone.Last edited by Harley88 on December 30th, 2015, 6:49 am, edited 1 time in total.
Your prop selection is fine. Without getting into performance diagnostics and the entire gamut of such, put all of you heaviest tackle in the rear storage compartments (jigs, weights, worms, etc). Keep your center fore compartments light and counterbalance your weight with the port side rod locker if possible. This is from experience with myself. Engine height with a manual slide master jack plate seems to be best at flush and/or 1/4″ either side of flush.
Hi Icebox. Please note mbecklers comments about loading the weight in the rear. My P2 ran best with a 25 and a 26 Fury compared to the Tempest Plus. The Tempest is a good prop. The Fury is a great prop. Your post does not reflect rpms to help the owners guide you on pitch.
mbeckler is spot on. Per Ivan a few years ago – “10lbs on the bow or 100lbs. on the stern equals 1 mph”. I moved my heavy stuff from the bow to the rear compartments and picked up 4mph. As a trade off – the heavier the rear and lighter the front – the slower the hole shot. It will squat deeper on launch and the nose wont be as quick to drop as it pushes and lifts out of the hole. Everything in front of my consoles is light. I carry a day box of tackle Ill most likely use for the day and about 15 bags of plastics in the front storage. As well – rods, net, rainsuit, and snacks. Everything else to the rear…..
Jeff, If you have a Croxton prop, call Mark. He has the knowledge about these.
I dont have one I was thinking of getting one. My Rpms say almost 6k is not smart craft or anything its all mechanical beede gauges so Im sure there off a lil bit. I probably have 50 to 60 pounds of just plastics in the very front compartment and 40 pounds of cranks and jigs and other misc in the second compartment up front. I figure id rather have it and not need it rather then need it and not have it. Im going to take most of it out and only put what Im going to use in the rear and distribute the weight more towards the back. Just wondering if a croxton 4 blade is a good choice to try, that or a 26 or 25 fury. If I sent my 25 tempest plus to croxton to have blueprinted and balanced would that help at all?
I have a 25 fury on my 13 p2 . Gilbert blue printed and balanced. WAT A DIFFERENCE! . MY BUDDY HAD A TEMPEST ON HIS PUMA AND TALKED TO GILBERT him about tempest vs. Fury he was told no matter wat he did the tempest would not compare to fury. I never delt with croxton. Give him a call I bet he would be open and honest. IMO I think the fury is the best op for your boat. Generally the fury is a couple faster than the tempest.2013 PANTERA 2MERCURY 200 PRO XSMINNKOTA 80LB FORTREX25 fury
