wondering if any of you know anything about that area, have a lead on a new job there but it looks like it might be a bit rough of a town, Petal looked okay based on crime stats, any thought would be appreciated for sure. job would be on south east side near the airport judging by the map.Any good freshwater fishing in the area?Treat everyday like it might be the last
Its a strange area…. Stay away from Laurel. Petal from what I know is an ok area. There are parts of HBurg that are sketchy. But it is a college town so… Theres that to think about too. Speaking as someone who lives in a College town (Tuscaloosa) and doesnt care to GO to the games, I try to stay as far away from campus, and town in general, on game days… So try to find somewhere to live no where near the campus….. lolRoss Barnett wont be far from you. It would be a good place to go fish.Theres a state run lake called Calling Panther, that opened a few years ago…. Ive seen pictures of 8, 9, and even a 10lber that came out of CP…. So keep that place in mind. Those are probably the two biggest places close to you.If you want to travel to the Vicksburg area, Eagle lake USE to be a good fishery but, when I left that part of the state 8 years ago, it had pretty much turned into a pleasure boaters lake, and mostly crappie fishermen in the off season.13 PIV w/ 200 MercIG: WarriorRiverCustomRods
Simpson County lake is another good lake in that area not too big but does produce some nice fish especially in the spring. Paul Johnson State Park Lake is also close by as is Lake Perry
Eagle is probably one of the best lakes in the state right now. Barnett is showing out this year as well. I personally wouldnt live in this state if it werent for my job.

I live in Hattiesburg…..No it is not a rough town, though i live in West Hattiesburg(Oak Grove Area).Lamar County.Stay away from the inner city…Schools are ok in the west..Petal has a nice school and Petal is ok tho i prefer the area where we live.I have lived here for 36 years coming from Mobile. It is not Mobile but it is a very nice town…Fishing you will find is mostly small lakes 400 to 1000 acres within a 30 minutes to a 1 hour drive.Ross Barnett isa 2 hour drive…All the lakes that destec named are small lakes. In Laurel Boga Homa is 1000 acres and very good in the Spring. The Mississippi Gulf Coast is a little over an hour drive.Mobile 1 1/2 to 2 hours.New Orleans 2 hours.Jackson 1 1/2hours.Also you can fish the Tenn Tombiggbee in Coffeeville 2 hours.Demopolis pool 2 hours and Columbus pool 3 hours..Laurel is a 30 minute drive from Hattiesburg and not a bad town.I worked there for 13 years. You can call me any time todiscuss …601-408-9277…………….Robin
My wife was born there so it is a good place to be from.Johnny
I was there for awhile before Desert Storm on the early 90s…. Seemed like a decent place then and it was a short drive to the Gulf…. I was alot younger so we used to hang out at the College bars… Seems like one was called Sharkeys.. There were alot of Deer out at Camp Shelby so I would think the hunting would have been ok..
Thanks to all who replied, I am heading down Sunday and going to visit with them Monday morning.Robin I will try to give you a shout tomorrow if that is okay with you, any times work better than others, I am pulling nights right now and wont roll out of bed until around 11:00 am tomorrowTreat everyday like it might be the last
My son goes to USM there. I have visited often and seems like a nice enough area. 2 hour drive down to NOLA area for some of the best fishing in the world IMO.
