Master Power Panel Access?

How do you guys access the master power panel on a 06 P4? I took the black caps off, and instead of ss screws, its riveted to the sidewall. Do you drill them out and replace with screws? Asking, because Im tracking low voltage drop at bow (like alot of people). I think the biggest source is the wire running to the front is too small to handle the amps needed.Thanks,Bassrookie.

You will have to drill the rivets out. Replace with either rivets or screws. I would doubt its the wire size unless youve got several items feeding off the same line. Good luck finding your problem!

Thats what I was afraid of. Thanks. I have already checked and cleaned all my connections up front at the acc. panel, and have 12 volts on the both units, until I turn on the nav. lights, then the voltage drops to 10.8 on the front. Only have the time I start the big motor will the front unit turn off, but its annoying.

i sort of got the same issue on my 06 p4, now every time i start the big motor the fwd hummbird turns off. also may get a low voltage message while running trolling motor too. still need to work it. all batteries are new. i just keep on fishing….Last edited by brewcat on January 31st, 2010, 2:08 am, edited 1 time in total.

On my Baycat I got a low voltage message on my front depthfinder, after I started the big engine. I never bothered checking anything, I suppose when the engine was cranked, it sapped some voltage from the front of the boat. Everything seemed to work fine though.

Hmm? Those are supposed to be mounted with screws, so apparently someone had a better idea that is not SOP>? Thanks for asking the question and you do need to replace with screws if you can. BCB

B/R,You indicate that the issue comes when you crank the big motor. That takes a lot of energy out of a battery, for a short period. Ive seen this problem before, and it usually occurs when the cranking battery is too small. IF you have a 24 series cranking battery, Id bet you a MegaBass jerkbait that if you replace that battery with a 27 or better yet 30 series battery, you will solve your problem.Ive never owned a P4, but I have had PIIs, PIII, Cougars and Pumas, and Ive never, ever had this issue. My batteries(3 of them) are 30 series SCS 225 Trojans. I just dont think that BCB uses wire that is too small on the harnesses to the bow.Personally, Id look at the cranking battery as your source of the problem, first.Trying to help,Mike Whitten/Germantown, TN

That is a 16 gauge wire loom, and should be more than sufficient.

Okay. Thanks guys. I really dont want to break the rivets if I dont have to. When I bought the boat, I wasnt used to the Mercs. drawing so much juice, and I thought the original battery was weak, so I replaced with a Stowaway 1000 Cranking amps, 800 CCA, and 115 reserve amps. That was the biggest battery I could find locally. I will do some research on the battery youre reccommending Mike.Thanks, and this is what I like about the BCB service.

2012 – Pantera IV – Pumps aren’t working. When I reach behind touch panel I can get the recirc pump to come on but not bilge or aerator. How do I rmove the panel to gain access to the plug?
