A couple of weeks ago I had the Puma out. I have a 275 Verado and 25 fury. There were 3 people all about 200# each, full livewells, almost full gas tanks (18 rear & 25 under the seat). The only way I could get on pad was to have one of the people crawl up on the deck towards the bow until she nosed over. Once I got to 14 MPH it took off fine. Thinking about the above I decided to adding some weight to the front of the boat. I put 40# of lead in each of the 2 compartments on either side of the net compartment for a total of 80 pounds. Took it back out yesterday to see how it would do. Only had 2 of us this time but when I trimmed the motor down all the way and pushed the hot foot it went on pad almost immediately. at 11 MPH the bow raised about a foot, nosed over and from there it was like a rocket. WOW what a difference that extra weight made. I plan on taking maybe 20 pounds out and see how that works.The Verado weighs about 200# more than the 150 Optimax and over 100# more than the 200 or 225. The weight might impact my top end but I ran it up to 64 and still had some pedal to go which is way faster than I need to go. The water temp 100 degrees and the air temp 94 on the cooling lake I was on. Just thought I would share my findings with all of you. John

I dont want to carry any more weight than I have to, but I try to keep the seat tank full, and just enough in the aft tanks to get me home. Thats unless I am going to need more gass. Definetly comes out better. I have a puma, 225proxsMilton

Not sure about the Verado but I had a 07 Puma / 250 ProXs, and with a 27 Trophy and a full load, gas in middle tank, and partner, it would jump out of the hole and make top-end to 75mph or so bepending on boat traffic. Point being you might want to try the 4 blade if a hole shot is what you want. I would not load down the compartments with whatever?? Other that your gear ofcourse. Chuck

I would like to see bcb opinion on 40 lbs of lead bouncing around in there in each compartment before I did that.C.O.D. Jr. III

Probably knew the answer to that one Ward. We would suggest you try other propellers, though we have already commented on this particular rig and we have no way of knowing the idiosyncrasies. Too much history on this one we have no knowledge of.

I have a 2006 Puma and a 250hp Verado. I had to toss the 28p Bravo 1 it came with; slapped on a 26p Trophy Plus and experimented with the engine height. Now with 1/2 tank of fuel – fully loaded by my self – apprx 6 sec hole hot and 75-77 mph top end depending on the air temp. I was having some Verado service bulletins addressed 2 weeks ago and two 250lb mechanics took it for a “test run” (joy ride) for an hour at $99.99 per hour. It was 105 degrees that day & they noted 74mph on the service contract. I love my Cat but Im now FORCED to sell it by next December to purchase that new ERYA & SHO. All the Erya / SHO posts are killing me. Ill never own another 2 stroke again.
