after attending the o.i last year at sam rayburn with my wife we (I) decide to move there. I know theres a lot of texas bass cat owners on here and figured it to be the best place for some honest answers. im looking at the lake Conroe and lake Livingston area possibly working in the Huntsville, spring or Livingston area and commuting. my questions are as follow, weather in the area as a standard i.e how cold winter how much rain snow tornados and hows the summer temps, second question is the economy in the area not sure if the drop in oil prices really effects texas as much as we here about, up here in Washington state, and lastly the fishing and more to the point the clubs in the area and there willingness to help an out of state new guy learn the waters. any replies or additional input about the area would be appreciated.
mrkaycs, welcome to San Antonio,(when you get here) The nearest BCB dealer is about 1and a half to two hrs. from here. If you have a Merc or Yamaha on your rig there are a couple of good dealers real close, depends on where you live here. There are a few BCB owners here and if you would like, contact me and would be glad to give you info on places to fish or any other things you may want to know. Some very good fishing within a couple of hours or less. Have access to 2 or 3 of the best bass lakes in the country here in S. Texas also. You can send an e-mail if you would like. mrkaycs, I guess youre either Air Force or Army. Hopefully any issues you have with your rig will be maitenence on your motor, as Bob said, theres plenty of good wrenches in town. Im retired Air Force and would love to show you the ropes of South Texas fishing, as Bob said, the fishings great down here (except for this wind!). I know youll be busy settling in, but June should be great at both Amistad and Falcon and Ill speak for Bob, wed both love to take you out and put some fish in the boat. Also, you have 2 power plant lakes right on the outskirts of town. We have BassCat Joe, whos somewhat an expert on these lakes — Im sure hell chime-in. I dont know what your plans are, but San Antonios a great place to settle with interest rates the way they are, our housing market is great. Besides fishing, if you need any help give me a ring. I work at Randolph AFB now. my e.mail is [email protected]
another p4 (06) owner here in san antone. feel free to ask away on any questions you may have.
Bob, Ed, John and Brewcat, Thanks for all of the great offers and information. Bob and John I will be dropping you guys an email soon and I would definately love to get together with you guys and get the guided tour of bass fishing in S. Texas. Thanks again. Ed, yes this is Craig from Ft Campbell and I used to own a 2001 Bass Cat PIII. Are you the new owner of it? I traded it in on my new P4 at Skippers Boatique in Cadiz, KY. I also saw a video of you running my old boat on Youtube….LOL! Hope it is treating you well and is all you hoped it would be. It was a great boat for me but wanted to upgrade since my tournament schedule was getting a little busier. Thanks again everyone for the information. Again, another reason to drive a Bass Cat! I bet you cant find info like this on the Triton website…LOL! Take care, Craig
Yes, Craig, I talked to you before I purchased it. Everything is working on it and I still love it. Any minor issues I didnt know about it was taken care of by the excellent people on this forum. Didnt know they were going to send me a new jacket and hat too! Its still going strong but I did put a whale tail on it so I could go a little slower with the wife and still stay on plane. It also helped immensely with takeoff. Glad your doing well and still in the States. Just to let you know, your old kitty is in good hands. Still LOVE MY CAT!! Thanks and Good Luck in San Antonio. Summers in Texas are HOT and HUMID! In the spring the wind starts and you wonder if it will ever stop. Power Poles are your friend. You can fish a tournament everyday of the week in the spring through the fall. Most of the Texas Anglers will go out of there way to help you get going in the right direction unless you are asking about the Big Sam! There are lakes all over the area you are looking at. Just take your pick. Most are full of trees and or stumps so respect them or pay the price. Texas is awesome!BrianBrianHAWG Hunter2013 BassCat Eyra2013 Mercury 250 Pro XS Gen2 L/U
CONROE HAS SOME LARGE FISH,NO GRASS . WILL NEED TO FIND THE BRUSH PILES THAT FOLKS HAVE PUT OUT. LIVINGSTON MOST OF THE TIME IS A 80,000 ACRE MUDHOLE. SO MUCH MUCK FROM THE TRINITY RIVER GRASS WONT GROW. I AM PRESIDENT OF LUFKIN BASS CLUB IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO TALK GIVE ME A CALL (936-829-3545).
Moved to dallas 8 yrs ago love it so many choices as far as lakes especially fork. North Dallas not much humidity and lots of work.
What kind of work are you in not much to do outside the city inless it oil field related and yes the oil prices effect the oil field here.dfw is close to many lakes an an hour or two from the really good ones.
I work as dodge mechanic have for the last 24 years but any auto job is fine. My youngest daughter graduates in June and already have my house on the market. Me and the wife liked the heat and humidity im originally from Nevada but have lived in Washington since 1988 when I came up here in the coast guard love the fishing just tired of being wet and cold 9 months a year.
Dont forget if youre close to Rayburn youre also not far from Toledo Bend. Some great fishing there as well. Come on down!!!
I live on Lake Conroe and grew up in the Houston area. Winters will be very mild and short compared to what you are used to in Washington. The flip side is summers will be hotter and longer than youre used to. Not many tornadoes or snow but there is an occasional hurricane. Ive lived in Kansas at one point and dealt with tornadoes and Ill take hurricanes all day long, as there is plenty of time to react and get out of town before it gets bad. The bass fishing on Conroe is better but you have to put in more time. If you live in Montgomery area like me (west side of lake) you can also be out to Fayette or Somerville within an hour or so. If youre around livingtson, you can be to Rayburn or T-Bend within an hour or so. Economy is going to be strongest around the Houston and surrounding areas. For the northside of town that would encompass The Woodlands, Conroe, Magnolia, Montgomery, & Tomball areas. It is dependent on oil and gas but at the same time its become very diverse and very large that it weathers the storm pretty well. Theres a couple really solid clubs in the Conroe area. Im not a member of any but fish with a lot of the guys that are and theyre good people. If you need any more info just let me know.
IMO go to Tx in a heartbeat over those wet cold winter where you at. Love big Sam and Toledo.
