I fished Erie Sunday in my 05 PIV and it was rather rough. We took a couple over the front deck and it appeared that the water ran over the deck and down to our feet area. When we got back to the dock I opened the compartment in front of the driver to find about 3-4″ of water. I thought that the compartments would be dry, and the other were. I can understand some water getting in but what I found was that there appeared to NIT be any drain holes in the compartment? Is it suppose to be like that? If water gets in, how is it suppose to drain out?

Water probably entered through the drains if the foot control basin. I noticed that the drain hoses on my P4 didnt go complete to sump, where only about 4″ long enough to direct it to, but not get it there if the boat would be bouncing around. It could of also been through the compartment lid seals, you would need to lay paper in the box then pour water on the box to confirm this.

Not suppose to get any water in them so no need for a drain. You need to get them out. Its not supposed to drain out, and dont drill drain holes. The water should not be getting in to start with. That means you obviously have a leak somewhere in the top. You should find the leak and fix it rather than thinking about drain holes. Check your rubber seals around the top for possible location of leaks. Also check the hinges and the locking mechanism for possible leaks. I believe the instructions for finding a leak are posted in the FAQ section. Good luck. Kent Edit: Judd barely beat me to it. Our findings in rough water are that you fill the Sump with water, then it travels sloshing to the bow area, and splashes to the bow with an almost jet force. Then it splashes around to both sides. This action is from water in the sump and ballast in the center. We have played with an oversized piece of foam in the center ballast, that you can bag and vacuum for a small size to insert in that center ballast through the floor drain. Then you remove the vacuum and the foam expands trapping itself in the ballast. The water will flow through the permeable foam, then drain. The forward sloshing then is stopped by the foam blocker.
