Today was my first day out in my new (to me) PIV. First off, Ive been fishing out of a 93 Javelin Fish n Ski for years. I have been looking at my PIV for a week, and not been able to get it in wet. Today I did. The Merc Opti was so quiet starting I couldnt even tell if the start was turning over. I have read and read, and read some more from you guys about fishing from these boats. I was afraid of taking it off the trailer, not a hassle. Once I got her up on plane, I opened it up for a second, and thats when I lost my religion. Dang this boat FLYS. I only added 7 inches and 25 horses, but this PIV is a BEAST (to me). I got used to forward basin, and actually like it. Getting the boat back on the trailer wasnt bad either. As a new owner of course I have a few questions. 1. My aerator isnt working nor the Pump In feature. Pump Out works as does recuirc pumps. Where should I start?! 2. The rod box tops are not fully flush with the rest of carpret. I could care less, just want to make sure Im not messing something up. They will PUSH down flush, but they arent in that position all the time. No I dont have stuff packed in them to the top either. 3. I came off plane pretty fast a few times and took water over the back. After the second time, I figured to back off, and “goose it” so this didnt happen again. So I won the tournament, got the new boat/new hat monkey off my back. Thank you all for being good sports and posting about how wonderful these boats are (I agree), and thank you BCB for making a darn good product.JPLast edited by JPeesy on January 23rd, 2011, 7:31 am, edited 1 time in total.
1. Aerator – Cant answer, sorry.2. Rod Box Tops – They stick up because of the thick padding around the lip of the top of the box. Its actually a good thing that it does that, keeps the water out. 3. Yeah, youve gotta goose her a little. Trim down to slow down while easing off the throttle. After you bury the bow and feather the throttle off she will come off plane smooth as glass.I just got out of a 93 Javelin 379 DC and got into an 04 PIV back in September. HUGE difference. Enjoy, I know I do.- Chaz
On your lids you want them snug not but overly tight. with the lid open loosen the set screw and turn the locking arm one revolution and retighten the set screw and close lid to check tension. I keep mine snug but not tight.coming off plane sounds like you have that figured out. congrats on winning the tournyTreat everyday like it might be the last
1. Could be a burnt fuse? No idea.2. You should tighten them so they are flush with the rest of the deck to help keep water out. LUVTOFISH said what to do. Just to add – he is talking about the screw and arm on the latches.3. I have to do what Suicide says on mine and all boats Ive had. If you shut her down and do nothing a wave will hit the back and wash over getting the back end wet. What I do is when the boat comes to a rest off plane you will feel the wave start to hit the back of the boat. I give just a little throttle at that moment to ride that wave a little so it doesnt wash over the back. Justa little practice is all it takes.
Glad you like the new P4, though we need to know what year model and model you have. In case it is an Advantage Elite with different equipment that a Premium model. 1. The pump in and Pump out can be few from a different lead by uplugging the pump cartridges and swapping them out to check for operation. Then easily determine if the issue is the pump, or the incoming power source. 2. There is not a totally flush fit unless you stand on the boxes and compress the bubble trim seal you will notice on the lips. This does help to keep the boxes dryer, an you can tighten the latch cam to reduce the lid height. Though you do not want the latch cams too tight. 3. There should not be much back wash on a Pantera IV model, though some if you totally chop the throttle and get a little on the deck possibly. The answer is not to goose it, though to slow the fall in the water slightly when the boat settles. Since the boat is on top more than other brands, it does come into the water a bit more on momentum also. Also seems it got the first christening in the tournament.
The boat is a 2006 Pantera IV, Ivan said it was the premium model. I fished again Sunday, still no aerators, didnt matter much cause I wasnt catchin fish. Where are the fuses located? In the back compartment?? I have the coming off plane thing down, and thanks for info on the boxes. I figured something to do with the weather stripping. I just wanted to make sure thats how theyre supposed to be.
jpeesy, You gained a religon instead of loosing it. Youll LOVE your new baby more each day.
Trim all the way down when slowing before stopping and there should be no backwash. There are no fuses, just circuit breakers, move the wires to another pump and see if it works, then replace pump cartridges, easy fix.Dont worry about the box alignment unless they leak, then tighten just to where you have to apply pressure to open the cam to open the box, dont overcompress the bubble trim. Good job on the tourney win ! D.
If there is voltage at the pump, then you have a pump problem. If you do not have voltage, then you check outgoing from the dash switch for voltage. The switch for the aerator is in the touch pad and the wire color is on the pump wire leads to the non working pump.
