Not good guys. I am so depressed and angry about all this.http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=524_1273510578
Makes me sick to my stomach, as these oil companies make all this money. Spend some of those profits trying to prevent things like this from happening. I know we all depend on oil and I get that part. However, Companies that take on the business of drilling and operating in a delicate environment must be held accountable when things go wrong.
Here is a site with information from the industry perspective, from someone that appears to know what hes talking about: http://www.theoildrum.com/node/6444
This is a case where US government regulation is needed. Isnt this a foreign owned company? There needs to be redundent emergency shut off for all oil rigs. Off shore or on shore.Treat them like nuke plants. They need to be inspected by US inspectors and if someone is breaking the law, throw them in a Columbian jail.
Thanks Sparker for posting that link. That is good factual info we will never get from the main stream media.
what happened to the “burn off plan??
Sparker wrote: Here is a site with information from the industry perspective, from someone that appears to know what hes talking about: http://www.theoildrum.com/node/6444that is some good info, and I di know for fact that oil wells are inspected by the Gov., BLM does the inspections, at least the ones on land anyhow.
The BOP setups they use in deepwater have a redundant shutoff system and it seems to have failed also. It may be months, or years before we know exactly what happened to cause this mess as the people who were actually doing the work when this happened more than likely were the ones around the rig floor when it blew up and they are the ones lost. With the systems they use when pressure is lost on the control lines running down the riser the well will shut in, but some reports are of pressures even higher than the blow out preventers are good for, and that might or might not be the reason for the leaks. If you just watch the news you will get a lot of bad, and blown way out of proportion information (remember reporters report on things and act like they know what is happening but most times do not have a clue as to what is really going on).The oilfield has come a long way in the 29 years I have been working out there and the safety and environmental policies have gotten pretty good over the years. Well control is the #1 priority when drilling a well so as not to have this happen, but sometimes pressures are calculated wrong because a zone has abnormal pressures that are above anything you would ever expect or dream of seeing. They test BOPs every week for rated pressures on a chart and they cannot leak or bleed down at all during these tests, if they do they must fix the leak and re-test.I just pray for the familys of those lost and hurt and hope they get this under control in the next few weeks. The man who did this video did not seem to have any real knowledge about what he was reporting on.The boats sitting around doing nothing looked like dive boats with rovs in the water, so they are doing something you just cannot see 5000 below the waters surface to see it.Joe FuerstHouma, LaLast edited by 1stinLA on May 12th, 2010, 6:37 pm, edited 1 time in total.
I fear this will not be healed in our lifetime, and the oyster beds and fishing industries will bear the brunt. This has already begun costing my company business, which isnt recoverable. There is no bait being sold in the eastern Gulf now, and no crabs, oysters, or much of anything being harvested. This will impact the seafood industries for years, maybe terminally for many. Lifestyles in LA, MS., Al. especially will change, including property values, resort use, and entire tourism industries could collapse. Where is Obama ? He who criticized the previous president for slow reaction to a hurricane ? This is much worse, and man made, and hes doing nothing but hosting foreign dignitaries whom hes conspiring with ?Im sickened by this. My wife participates in Share the beach” programs in Orange Beach every season, and turtles are washing ashore, instead of coming in and laying eggs.We are sometimes easily deceived,,,but there is more to this than a series of mechanical failures i assure you.
