That is acceptable and that can be done without dis-assembly of the end unit. Though welding should be done with rotation to prevent pulling. If the end is cracked loose, it may require some straightening first. The welding does not need to build up heat, and rotating around the opposing sides prevents the welding from pulling the end unit on an angle. And this does happen welding. Removing the brake caliper should accomplish all the parts breakdown you would need. The end unit is welded into the axle on a pin weld, which can bee seen on opposing sides of the axle. The 2″ tube is drilled on two sides, and the spindle it safety pin welded in that hole to prevent failure and loss of the end unit. BCB
