I fished a district 119 ABA tournament on Rayburn on Saturday we went out of Jackson Hill I was pretty happy with 3rd place considering the local guys that showed up as usual took 1st and 2nd. Yes Phil your partner took 2nd and Sonny took first. Anyway now for the sad part. at about 4:30 am we were just getting up and there was a knock on the door. the tournament director informed me to check my boat because they had been hit / ripped off. Sure enough they made a cut at the front of the cover just long enough to cut the strap that runs under the rub rail and the cover was off the side of the port side rod locker. They unlocked the rod locker and cleaned me out of 15 rods and 10 reels. these were mostly Castaway rods. 6 Revos and 4 4600 C4s They hit 6 boats 3 at Jackson hill and 3 right down the road at some cabin were they were staying. in all the thieves made off with 74 quality rods and reels. One of the guys had all brand new rods and reels because he was ripped off last week in Pirates cove on Toledo bend, Im telling you these clowns knew what they were doing. they knew just were to cut the straps and they had keys they unlocked mine and left it unlocked. they unlocked and then locked my Buddys “He thought he was ok because his was still locked” when he checked the locker was empty. Another guy had different locks and they just pulled his locker open from the corner. all of these boats were within 20 foot of the cabins where they were staying. 2 including mine were under street lights. While filling out the police report we were told that this type of activity has picked up recently. I guess some type of alarm could have helped. I know some swear by locker bars but I have seen 2 cases in the past were the boat winch was hooked to them and used to bend the bar. We are living in a sad world when they steal your fishing poles. We were offered rigs to fish with by other competitors to fish on Sunday but we all just went home. yall be careful out there. Sorry about that buddy.Dan Yonan. ———————————————————
I was tod the same type thing happened friday night at Mountain Harbor on Ouachita before the weekend series tourney. I believe these thugs went on the docks or used a boat…… I hope they catch em and bury them under the jail….
start watching ebay, maybe you will get lucky and catch those ——– trying to sell them!
Ouch. I hate to hear that. The only safe thing is to completely unload the boat whether you have an alarm, loc r bar, or whatever theft deterant system you want to use. I know youve heard it a thousand times and I know its a pain in the rear, but most could care less about your stuff, especially those that run the hotels, motels, marinas, etc. In addition, if “Johnny Law” would do what hes suppose to do, then a lot of this wouldnt happen too. They were probably up there in Broaddus playing 7 liners!
sorry 2 hear that its 2 bad people r doing this stuff y do they have 2 b this way
What I have read about these thefts at TB, Rayburn and Fork…. It has been more than… “just recently”… Seems like there is a new “theft” posting on the Texas Fishing Forum every other week or so. Sorry this happened to you.
Hmm? Since they apparently had keys they are boat savvy. This is where an Alarm comes in handy and why we dont publish the access sequence. Sorry to hear of the issues. BCB
I know its a problem everywhere but Rayburn is the only place we have been hit. We were at an Oilmens tourney and staying in Rayburn Country several years ago. We were among 6 or 7 others that got hit that night in there. Dads 1996 “R” boats plastic latches were locked but they just pulled them open with no problem. The cover was on but that did not deter them at all either. We both now have loc-r-bars on the front deck, but we take all our rods into the room with us. Its a pain to haul them back and forth, but at least we can change lines and retie baits while watching TV and we know we will be fishing the next day instead of dealing with police and having to replace everything. I live on Toledo Bend and apparently we have a group that goes around every once in a while stealing whatever they can in different areas of the lake. Sometimes its out of peoples storage rooms. Other times its right off of the boat docks. So you never know if they are coming by land or by water. Its just a darned shame you have to lock up everything you own. The only problem is, like my Dad always tells me, locks are only to keep out the honest people. Thieves will find a way around a lock even if they have to destroy your property to get to whatever is inside.Jim EbarbMany, LA (Toledo Bend Lake)2004 Cougar/ 225 OptimaxHumminbird Helix 12 Chirp SI on BalzOut Mount at bowLowrance HDS 7 at bowHumminbird Helix 12 Mega SI on Ram Mount at ConsoleLowrance HDS 8 in dash at console
This is so sad but its happening everywhere. WHY doesnt everyone just pull their rod/reels/electronics out of the boat at night. This would solve this problem completely.
