Trollig motor locking down on water

Hey folks,I put a new Motorguide 82 lb trolling motor on my 2006 Puma and today while fishing I could not get it to come up and store properly. In fact, today during a tournament I had to beach the boat and take the trolling motor out of the bracket so I could go load the boat and try to see what was wrong. It seems like the 2 pins that lock the motor in place are able to slip left and right. When it slips to the left it catches in the groove on the bracket housing and will not store. Any ideas why they are moving? Both are moving and the bracket I took off does not have this problem. Thanks

Some just float and we have seen this before. They will also lock in place down, requiring a small hole to be drilled so you can tap the pin over to stow it.

I appreciate the feedback but do you mean I have to drill the pin itself? Can you elaborate? Its never been on the water before. I cant believe this is acceptable for a new out of the box bracket. I lost 2 hours in a tournament today. Ill try contacting Motor Guide next week.

Its not acceptable, though we wanted to give you input in case it locked in place. Otherwise you would be removing it from the braket to stow it. The pins can float on poor fits which are seldom, though we have seen a couple this year. To stow it a hole would have to be drilled in the side of the bracket decket plastic part so that you could tap the pin over to stow the troller. Just in case you get it stuck.

OK, thanks. Really disapointing. Well see how or if theyll help me. I think a replacement bracket is the only thing to make it right though. RJ

Basscat mines doing the same thing except its the bottom pin in his picture. Keeps sliding out. Should I contact motor guide or is it something I can fix. Ive about had enough of this TM. its loud and constantly trying to fix squeaks rattles and now this.

We would have a MotorGuide service center see what the options are. You can try MotorGuide Service, though neither trolling motor company is set up for direct customer service. They are fine working with a service center, and they may point you in that direction with a Trouble tracker ticket started on your serial number. The noise in the bracket can be calmed down with just a couple pieces of tape stuck on the base toward the now, where the arm rests, at the furthest forward point, will resolve most of the noise your hearing.

Ive seen this one other time. The lockslide pins should be “knurled” where they slip into the lockslides. The knurl prevents them from sliding sideways. If the trolling motor was under warranty, it would be a warranty fix. The pins can be easily changed by tapping the old one out and the new one in. I agree, a $5.00 pin shouldnt let you lose 2 hrs fishing time. I should have these pins instock.JohnJones Trolling Motor Services870 773 3474Motorguide/MinnKota/PowerPole/Lowrance/Humminbird

Had the same problem with my 06 Puma, replaced the pin and fixed the problem.
