hydralic steering

Still pondering buying the 99 classic, but it doesnt have hydrolic steering. Someone told me you could have this installed. Is that right? and what would it cost? The boat has a 99 Evinrude on it

You can but its expensive. I believe BCB will tell you its not worth it in thier opinion. Many here are big fans of cable steering.

thanks, cable steering it is, Im full of questions. How about that 99 Evinrude ? heard any bad things about that year or should I be concerned? Not real sure how many Hrs. are on it

pay to have a good mechenic inspect it. I dont know about 99s but while everyone seems to have a preference, any major brand is going to be of high quality. The biggest thing I think in your case is how well it was maintained and how hard it was run.

The engine model would be our question. The 200 Ficht engines really are/were not bad motors. The 200 carb engines were a little thirsty, though fairly durable. We did not sell many Ficht engines, though many are still running in the 200 size. Other sizes are different in the expectations. If that is a 150 carb engine (Intruder), then jump on it. They are great motors. BCB

RE: hydraulic steering…it is expensive, maybe close to $1,000 w/ installation. Cable steering is just fine, except the cables do tend to get corroded inside over time and the steering can get tight. Might be something to check for on that 99 model. Good luck!

you can buy a used sytem off of ebay, I bought a complete system helm cylinder and houses for 300. you cant beat it, I put cables on my boat 3 years later had to replace them again. I would go hydrallic anyday look on ebay you can find a deal.
