Compartment Lights Stay On when ??????

Tonight i was playing with my boat, and the 2 compartments bewteen the net storage stay on all the time, when the master switch is on of course, i kind of know how the mercury switch works and that doesnt seem like the problem, I even unhooked the 2 mercury switch connections and the lights still stay on, its not that big of a deal but i like figuring out stuff like this Thanks Ryan 2005 puma

Not sure how these lights are staying on if youre disconnecting the wire at the mercury switch. Bear in mind that the light for both of those compartments are common to one another. So if you had the wire disconnected to one mercury switch and the lid was open on the other box, the lights are going to burn.

Both wires on each mercury switch off and lights are still on???? They are getiing power from something else.. i just got the boat saturday i am the 3rd owner and i bet it was wired wrong from the factory somehow

Does it have a security system? We suspect that as a culprit. Though there is only one incoming wire so we cant figure out how it would be getting power unless someone tinkered with the wiring somewhere along the road. BCB

Looks like youll have to do some figuring out. I believe the old mercury switches was used as the ground. In this case a bypass wire was used and is ground at all times. I do know one thing, I dont think it wired like this from the factory.

i really dont know if it has a alarm, i wish i had some kind of wiring diagrahm, the worst thing i can do is take the 3 bulbs out so my battery doesnt get drained

This one could be a tough one. The mercury switches are potted on earlier models and enclosed in aluminum on later versions. The earlier models have the potted switches and use the hot leads. The later models are grounded and the lids are grounded with the negative lead. If it is earlier, tough one. If it is a later version, then your lids are grounded and the mercury switch is faulty. These are usually replaced by a potted style of merc switch. BCB

Well my buddy came by to see the new boat, so i showed him the problem with the lights he fixed it within 25 minutes hes a wicked good electrician, he said that basscat wired it wrong from the factory, they connected 1 wire wrong, not a big deal but it was driving me nutts, thanks for the help.. Ryan

Glad he could help though we still suspect tampering on this one somewhere. The lights are checked three times at BCB and we would hope the retail dealership would have checked it also prior to sale.

Ryan, no tampering on my part buddy! I really dont think it had to do with tampering. I bought it off of Lance with just 23 hrs on it, and I never messed with the wiring. Now that I think of it, I always did notice how those lights in the 2 compartments near the net storage stayed on while closing the lids. I just thought that they must go out right when it closes. I just thought it was a real tight tolorance on the switch when it came to turning on & turning off. Glad you fixed it! I never had a low battery issue since Ive owned it, but thats probably because I always charged the batteries immediately after every use.
