I had a punch list of things to do for my dealer and one of them was to remove the front section of my rod lockers rod organizer in my SabreFTD. I was challenged some with storing longer rods so I wanted to see how it would work per this modification. With the front rod tube section removed my rod locker has gone to another level. Disclaimer: I do not know how difficult it would be to re-install the removed front section of the organizer. If you do it yourself please be aware. Anyway, I now have half a rod organizer setup in my rod locker. The rear half for rod butts to be housed are secured with the bungee strap and the front end now open to easily store my 711″ KVD deep crankbait rods. I can put in multiple 8 rods I feel if I want to. With the use of stick jackets it is much easier to store my rods in my Sabre and I couldnt be happier with the results. I was thinking about doing that myself. I dont think I would consider it without using rod socks.
The shop has always said that with rod sleeves, pro tubes or rod socks the boxes hold way more rods easier to access.

I havent done this but I bet I could add even more rods by resting rod butts on the top of the shelf that houses the rod with the bungee cord.
Tom you can only fish with one ARig at a time. You dont need all those rods!
Rod sleeves are well worth the money! Especially on your spinning gear. Is there a reason that the rod locker is always Port side? I wouldnt mind having mine on the right side. The deck indentation for the reels is sweet but if you need to jump into the box to grab another rod in a hurry, the rods are in the way. Im always nervouse that I am going to throw one over board, almost have a couple of times…

I reomoved mine shortly after getting my Sabre. Now holds 8 rods easily with stick jackets, and would probably hold 4 more. My organizer came right out after removing the 2 screws.

BassCat correct me if there is something else that needs to be done.
When i had my 2001 sabre i had 19 rods with sleeves(before stik jackets came out) stored in it, you should have seen the look on the guys face at the dealership when i was emptying the boat out to transfer all that stuff in the P4 i was buying at the time. He could not believe all those rods came out of one locker on an 18 foot boat even. It was packed in there but somehow i thought it was easily managed, but then again i usually had about 10 out on the deck during any given trip…guess that happens when you cant dial in exactly what the fish are after.
I have 2006 Sabre I took the front rod tubes out have all my rods in neoprene sleeves and carry 12 rods without a bungee no problem.
