I have a 2010 Cougar dual console, 250 Pro xs, 36V trolling motor, and power pole. I am running a 26p fury and the hole shot sucks when the boat is full with water, gas, and gear. The top end is unreal it runs loaded 78. I was just woundering if any one has run a 25 and how much did it help your hole shot? I am willing to give up a couple of MPH on top end if I can get out of the water better. Ive only had the boat a few weeks, this could be just because its in middle of the summer and hot as hell down here in South La. The 26 might do great in the spring, winter, and fall.
Although mine is a 2011 Couger, with the other specs identical. Our water temps have been 85-86 degrees. Not sure of our elevation in central Iowa. Was considering a 25 Fury, need a spare prop anyway.Bill
How about adding another ventilation hole to the hub of the propeller. BCB
I run a 25p Fury on my 08 CougarAE, and am near rev limiter on my 225, so i think id ventilate the 26 as per BCBs suggestion, or wait for cooler weather !
I am running a Puma FTD with a 26 Fury……I am thinking about trying a Turbo OT4….I ran one on my older Jag hull and was very happy with the holeshot and rough water performance of that prop..I fished a tournament on Saturday and it was over 90 degrees with high humidity…Holeshot was tolerable but I would like it to be a little better….
I have same equipment but single console. Bought slightly used with new 25 Fury. Hole shot OK in cold weather even with 2 people ( 230lbs. each ) water in live well and maybe 14 / 15 gal in each tank. Outstanding midrange performance. I really like the fury……however in warm weather and same load there was no hole shot. Took forever to plane off even though top RPM was about 6100 and 75 plus mph. My experience may be different from many others on this board, but I went to a 24 Tempest plus which is 2 / 3 mph slower but has better hole shot and only slightly more RPM. Midrange is not quite as good as the Fury but OK. First ran Tempest with no plugs…that didnt work ! With 2 plugs was good and recently tried it with only 1 plug and to my surprise it worked great…..no cavatation and even better hole shot than with 2 plugs. Have not hit rev limiter with either prop . Would really like to try a 24 fury. If anyone here has run a 24 Fury on a Cougar / 250 pro XS I would love to know How it worked out.Hope you get it all set up to your satisfaction whatever prop you settle on.
For Bayoubass and Bill the Fish Doc…I have tried a 25 Fury on a boat like yours Bayoubass, and on yours Bill. It works very well to improve hole shot but at top end it was a lot closer to the rev limiter than I like. There is a loss of aout 2-3 MPH on top end but you have to constantly watch the throttle, or the rev limiter goes off. I dont like to have the rev limiter kick in, as I fear it would show up some day on a readout on the motor and look like the boat was abused.Bill, I know you have a hydraulic jack plate on that beautiful rig and with it set all the way up and the motor trimmed all the way down, the hole shot was excellent. You just have to hit it and start working the jack plate down immediately. You also are going to have to let off the throttle a bit as the boat falls on plane to keep it from cavitating. This sounds convoluted but it wil become second nature as you do it more and more. The 26 Fury is the right prop for that rig.If you dont have a hydraulic plate, get one and get the blinker style controls if you dont have those.Hi Bill. Hope all is well.Last edited by VTBassCat on July 3rd, 2012, 2:03 am, edited 1 time in total.Bill Spence St. Albans, VT billspence@yahoo.com http://www.twinstatebassin.com Bass Cat Boats http://www.basscat.com Vexilar Marine Electronics http://www.vexilar.com
do as bcb said add vent holes quarter inch on backside of each factory holes. i have 2010 puma 225 proxs 25fury added holes 100% improvement 95 degree air 90 degree water.
BCB is always very polite in how they suggest things like adding vent holes to a prop. My guess is that they only suggest things theyre confident on and the performance of a cougar with a 250xs is probably something theyve had a bit of experience with… I personally dont have that exact set up, but if I did….Id suggest adding vent holes.
Mark,When you say back side of existing hole, does that mean toward the engine or away from it. I know on my Fury 25 there are no plugs in the current holes, it comes that way from the factory.Did you drill them or have someone else do it?Thanks in advanceJohn
