My trailer hitch will not open the Jaw when pulling the lever up. I have the drum style brake hitch.When lifting the lever, it will allow the jaw to open, when jacking the trailer off the ball. But when I want to load the trailer to the ballI have to maually hold the jaw open with my finger to allow it to go down over the ball. Not cool.Does anyone know how the hitch works on these type of trailers? The hydraulic brakes were disabled on this trailer by a pervious owner.The lever normaly opens the jaw, but as of late, it has quit working???Any ideas?Thanks

When the ball latch is all the way open/back if you let the lever down it should hold the ball latch open/back in place to fit down over the ball.If you lift the lever though it will let the ball latch close.. Im sure this is clear as mud…

Im sure this is clear as mud…Pantera, thats how it used to function. Pulling the lever up, does not open the jaw anymore. But this basscat style hitch doesnt seem to be just mechanical, but hydraulic. Was wondering what needs to be replaced?

This may be a dumb reply , but did you try lubricating said coupler ?? — Mine hangs up sometimes , and just a shot of WD-40 does the trick .

mine does it every time. I have a special screwdriver to hold the jaw open instead of my finger.
