Hi GuysJust bought a new mercury 150hp pro xs for my margay. Could you give me a place to start on the setup? What prop would be good? Thanks John

John-I would think a 24p Fury would work well. Not sure how heavy of a load you are looking at carrying. Ive got the 4-stroke and am currently trying a 23p Tempest in lieu of the 24p fury as I run with 2 people and little heavier load typical. If the weather would ever behave up in Iowa, I could probably get some good numbers…Thanks,Jared

I have a 2014 margay that I purchased a few months ago with the 150Pro XS Optimax. It has the 24p Fury prop. The fury is fine if you fish mostly by yourself. With a partner and a tournament load it really suffers. Holeshot remains good, but mid range power is lacking and yu have to get your speed up into the mid 50s to get the bow to come up. The Fury likes to run deeper than most props. With a tournament load my jackplate is 3/16″ below flush. I would love to hear someones experiences with the 23p Tempest.

Basspack-I purchased an old A45 23p tempest with dents/dings and had it reworked/blueprinted. Hoping to get a calm day here in the next couple weeks and run it to see how she runs. Sounds like youve run into the same issues I had with the Fury 24p prop. solo it comes right up out of the hole and takes off without issue. With 2 guys tourney loaded it fights to climb out and slow to climb on speed. havent tried with livewells full yet either. That will be another test with the new tempest…Jared

Im not sure why youre asking the question. Bass Cat sets up the boat prior to leaving the plant with a prop and the jack plate height that is best for most.

In 2014 Bass Cat put the 24p Fury on the Margay. Now they are putting a 23p Tempest. That tells me they think the Tempest is a better prop for the Margay. Also I purchased mine used and the propshaft had been lowered to 5 3/4″ below the pad. I believe the op said he had bought a 150 Pro XS to put on his boat. If you had driven a Margay with a two man tournament load and a Fury prop, you would be asking the same question.

I bought my Margay without a motor, so added a 150 4 stroke. Basscat and forums suggested a 24p fury, so I tried it. But with about 450lbs between 2 guys and a 24v fortrex setup, the margay just doesnt quite go like I wanted it to. so over winter I found the 23p tempest. so will see how it goes…
