Went up to Mille Lacs today and saw Ivan giving test drives in a new Puma. Lets just say 4 to 5 footers with the occasional 8 mixed in there, not exaggerated. My buddy was out in an 08 Puma and wouldnt leave the bay. Ivan is a bad a$$, running guys out on the lake with a smile on his face while driving the wheels of the thing. ( if it had wheels they would have feel off ) What a great guy to meet future Basscaters. The Puma handled the big water great and looked good doing it. Ivan offered me a ride I declined out of respect, I was cold and wet standing on shore watching. I have a Cat and many of my freinds do as well so I didnt feel like making Ivan run me out on the X games course in the cold. I really wish It would have had a chance to watch Ivan drive up close. I hope he comes back in the summer so we can get him into some 6 or 7 pound smallies instead of waves. Eddie Lyback was awesome as well. He is already a great Yar craft guy, I bet he sells a bunch of Cats. Probably one to me
Ivan has another gear most of us dont possess ! Very personable, professional, and very experienced in all he does, including his boat skills. Whats even scarier is that he fishes that well, too !
I was one of the fortunate folks to get a ride with Ivan. The wind was 15mph out of the NW, gusting 23-28. We launched in Isle Bay, SE corner of the lake. When we got out to the opening of the bay, we got to experience the results of the wind blowing and waves building across 20+ miles of lake. There were some awesome rollers out there. The Puma is truly impressive as I never got a bit of spray. Of course, this is also due to Ivans remarkable driving skills. Ivan took another fellow out after me. According to Ivan, this guy wanted to experience the Puma idling slowly in the rough stuff. Not the best time for that and they took one over the bow. Nevertheless, after they got back to the resort and loaded up the boat, Ivan still patiently answered all my questions, even though he was wet from the waist down, standing there in that NW wind with an air temp of maybe 50 degrees. Thank you sir.Good to meet you, Fuego.Last edited by Macsimus on September 23rd, 2012, 2:12 am, edited 1 time in total.
I wouldnt get out on 4-5 footers in a bass boat either.Think last time I saw those kind of waves was in the ocean in a 60 boat and got sea sick.
Good to meet you too Macsimus.

We got caught in a freak wind up on Chequamegon Bay this spring. Very scary. Got me to thinkin about a 20 footer.
Ivan can certainly drive. I did not do my Couger justice that day with you on Okoboji. I would love to learn a few rough water techniques from Ivan. I have had only limited time being part of the Bass Cat family, but knowing that they have such a quality individual like Ivan, why would one ever consider any other boat company!!??!! He has gone out of his way to help me more than once.Sounds like Mille Lacs dealership is a quality establishment, and matches well with Rick Pierces style and mission. Hoping to see more Cats up North. Cal, you might talk me into trying those big smallies on Mille Lacs.Bill
Thank You! to those that showed up @ Mille Lacs for test ride and drives with Ivan. We at Lybacks Marine are excited to represent the BassCat line along with Yarcraft. I was very impressed how well the Puma Ivan was giving ride in behaved in “Walleye Water” with all the wind we had those days. Truely Mille Lacs is a place to test drive these boats and when it does calm down up here..what a place to let them fly! Well have our first Cougar at the dealership in late December and well go from there. Thanks Again to BassCat, Ivan and company for letting this happenEddy Lyack – OwnerLybacks Marine
I call “bull hocky” on running 4-5 footers with 8s in a bass boat. Pull this other leg it plays jingle bells.
