LAKE CUMBERLAND DRAWDOWN

My sister lives in Lexington and our uncle and his family go down there all the time but they told us this year they werent going back until the water came back up. Of course they are skiers and not much on the fishing but he said there were some marina owners that were in a major pickle. I sure hope they get it fixed soon and get some rain to fill it back up. It is sad to see all these lakes this low, we would be in real trouble here in the DFW area if we didnt have all those flooding rains this spring. Now it seems we are ok but the SE part of the country is in a mess. Thanks for sharing AJ. Judd

Cumberland is down for repairs! Nothing to do with dry weather. The dam is in bad shape and will need major (as in many millions) which will take several years to complete. Center Hill is also undergoing major issues with leaks and has been drawn down for repairs. There have been meeting held by the Corps about a possible breach and they even had maps showing the potential flood damage downstream (read Nashville!) Since Tennessee sits on limestone all our old dams are subject to the same problems. It will cost billions to get them all fixed but is necessary to prevent possible major flood problems.
