Could have been because he limited early and “protected” his area, wasnt feeling well and needed to get off the water, or because he had a dying fish and decided to weigh in early to avoid a penalty. Could be many reasons.
Russ, is doing very well. Hes in 4 or 5th place with 23 plus today. He probably protected his spots because most of the elite anglers dropped in weight today. Russ, keep it up and good luck to you and the rest of the BassCat pros.
Jill said he had 2 fish that was close to dieing so he weighed in 2 hours early. 1lb. penalty might cost him some needed points with the tight weights. Might be a smart move. I was surprised how much the weights dropped. On another note Skeet is having a great year. Im not a fan of his but what I dont want to see is him dominate the year and lose the AOY here on the Alabama River and Lake Jordan. Central Ala wasnt his cup of tea last year. Would love to see Russ in the top 12. He is unbelievable on these 2 home waters. Jackem Up
Pretty much what I figured just hoped it wasnt because of mechanical problems. Good luck to Russ, Billy, Terry and all the Bass Cat quys that made the cut and hopefully all will move up again and make the top twelve cut.
I went to the weigh-in and most guys were battling the water temp and healthy figh. Several people, including Skeet weighed in a dead one. Skeet lost 8 oz as did several other. He would would have an even greater lead. He had a sack of monsters. Terry Butler did very well too and is righ there to make a move today.
I met Russ at SEBCOG a few years ago and he was a great guy. He ate dinner with us and answered questions, took photos you name it. Great guy no matter who he fishes for.
Thank you for your comment on Russ and that you came out and supported his character. The article Don Barone did on he and Jill was excellent and speaks well of the family aspect.
I like Russ because I bought his fishing partners boat and the GPS still had all their way points still in it labeled (me and Russel). Had a 6.1 and a 6.12 on Guntersville off one. I just hate to see a stick like that leave BCB. I live down the street from Hackney so maybe I will see them on my home water scouting for the classic.
I wish nothing but good luck and success to Russ in his fishing career. I doubt seriously you will hear anything negative coming from him about basscat. Pretty sad the same cannot be said about the other side.
