After adjusting the shaft in the top cap assembly (pulling it down), adjusting my ring bearing collar upward to the larger shaft flange and adding troll perfect to secure the larger and smaller shaft my 75lb Tour Digital Motorguide is what I expected and is extremely quiet now. Just as quiet as my past MKs. Also, after lubricating the cables my foot pedal works much easier now. No more worries and all problems solved.
Fly,Do you have to open the top cap assembly to adjust the shaft, and how do you adjust the ring bearing collar? I have the Troll Perfect but still need the adjustments you are talking about.Pete

Proceed with my info as a general guideline. Id contact BassCat or Motorguide if you feel you need more details. Also, going forward this is a TWO MAN JOB. Additionally, this is how I understood Rick so I may not be exactly correct understanding his comments. It was quite noisy at the boat show. Hopefully I did. Wouldnt be the first time I misunderstood someones helpful comments. Rick explained the thinner shaft extends the full length of the TM running inside the upper bigger shaft. It can move upward sometimes inside the motor cap assembly (contributing factor to the shaft noise). I opened the cap and saw nothing that stood out looking raised to me regrading the shaft. So I put the top cap back on.The ring bearing collar is the thick type washer with two alan head screws thats clamped up where the larger shaft and the thinner shaft merge. Here is what I did:1. I removed the TM from the mounting assembly. My son held my TM up right on its skeg. I told him to lift the TM off the ground thinking the shaft might be raised in the upper cap and I yanked firmly downward on the shaft and felt the shaft pull down about 3/8″. I loosened up my ring bearing clamp slid it up to upper wider shaft flange and securely tightened the alan head screws on the ring bearing clamp. My son was still holding the TM off the ground.2. After that I secured my TM back on my boat. Then attached Troll Perfect per instructions and all my shaft clacking, rattling, clicking challenges are now gone. Hope this helps.Last edited by Flyswatter on February 3rd, 2013, 5:33 pm, edited 1 time in total.
Thanks. I have this printed and headed to the garage to see if it makes any sense to me. I dont have a son to help me but my neighbor may be available.
I was able to loosen the ring bearing collar with the TM still on the boat and lower it as you described. I plan to hit the lake in the morning to test it out. Thanks.
One last question. What did you use to lubricate the cables with and where do you lubricate them?

If you did not let the shaft suspend and placed the collar in position while stowed, then it will still have slack. Also Flyswatter reset the upper gear othe top of the shaft, under the top head cap (arrow) we believe.

How do I reset the upper gear?
