Been crunching some numbers and wanted to get some real world opinions as didnt make it to the test drive event and considering repowering my Sabre FTD or making a move to an Eyra with 200hp SHO. Torque is what moves a boat out of the hole and the less weight speeds things up all else being equal. The P2 is the king with a G2 HO I believe and was thinking next would be the Classic followed by the Caracal/Eyra, but with the new 3.4L 175hp Pro XS is it fair to say the Sabre FTD has a similar holeshot as Eyra assuming the Merc makes similar output as the 2.7L G2 which is setting the bar in the 1215+470/230=7.3:1 1715+505/300=7.4:1Last edited by Wheelman on August 18th, 2018, 1:43 am, edited 3 times in total.
They have said an Eyra and 200 would make a great setup.
I have been thinking hard about re-powering my Sabre FTD as well. After 15 years of owning bass boats that would run over 80, the only thing I dislike about my Sabre is the lack of speed. I am thinking with some tweaking, I could get the Sabre with the new 3.4 175 to run over 70 everyday.
Call AquaTech Marine in Palm Bay, FL. They have a Sabre with a 175 4S.

Figure I could turn it up once the warranty is out, might have to get pricing on one as originally looked at a P2 though felt it wasnt worth the extra coin and didnt even price the Eyra as assumed it was quite a jump. Realize it can be put on a single axle trailer though now. I know you sit lower, but is spacing between console and seat tighter than P2 as well like the Sabre(Im only 58″, so didnt feel like I could sit back comfortably in the P2)? The new Classic is a great bang for the buck, but I like having the center seat pole for daughter though the center rod locker would be easier with dual consoles. The newer style console and larger front deck would probably help though on the Eyra.

The Eyra has more of a tapered top cap like the older styles than the beam forward Classic.Im not sure what you would gain with an underpowered Eyra. Yes it can perform good with a 200, but I would think it takes longer to re-sell with a 200. Its only 8 inches longer than a Classic, 4 inches wider for beam width(which is toward the back of the Eyra) and weighs 170lbs more than the Classic.Of course the Sabre is much smaller but loaded up with a 175, can be an all around fish n fun boat on a tighter budget that the big dogs wont pull away from too fast. But its just another observation to consider. None of the aforementioned Cats are on my radar.

None of the aforementioned Cats are on my radar.Resell with a 200 and single axle wouldnt be ideal with an Eyra I realize, though at the same time I wouldnt plan on getting rid of it anytime soon. Really thinking Id be happy with the 175 on my Sabre, but want to go for a ride before pulling the trigger this time. Hopefully local dealer will eventually get one in.
The caveat to that is the dealer is looking to sell and move products. He may get an Eyra in but Id be willing to bet your house its gonna have a 250 on it. Youd get a chance to sit in the Eyra, take it for a spin. Keep in mind the 200 will push it to around 73-74, then figure losing 1-2 mph when you add all your gear in.” Now, if you do go with the underpowered, at least you can repower later on with 250 and regain some speed and increase resale down the road.
