As a follow up to Ricks initial run I wish I had his experience. Disclaimer: My driving ability falls in a a spectrum that is better then some and not as good as many. I can drive through chine walk and max out my boats speed. That being said the Eyra was fun, impressive and challenging all in my first day on the water with 4 WOT runs. I forgot to bring wrenches so my bench marks are limited to my plate setting a 4.5″ below pad. Also, I think my dormant fishing rods were to much front and center too. Morning temps at 75°-77° , 5700 RPMs, 72.3 mph on GPS, Empty Livwells, Gas Tanks 3/4 Full, No wind, No Current, very humid with hazy fogMorning temps same as above, 5700 RPMs, 71.6 on GPS, FULL Livewells, Gas Tanks 3/4 Full, No Wind, No Current, very humid with hazy fog.Mid Morning temps same as above, 5700 RPMs, 72.6 on GPS, Empty Livewells, Gas Tanks 5/8 Full, No Wind, No Current, very humid with hazy fog.Mid Morning temps (11AM) Low 80° temps, 5700 RPMs, 72.9 on GPS, Empty Livewells, just below half 15-17 gallons combined Gas Tanks, No Wind, No Current, very humid with hazy fog.WPSI was consistent on all runs at 18 PSI at WOT.Light tournament load, 8 fishing rods, (3) 3700 tackle boxes, (2) 3600 tackle boxes rain gear, Center console full with ice, 4 drinks and snacks and two fender bumpers. I might be leaving something out but this is as accurate as I can get it.There is a lot more to do to dial in my boat. I will not leave wrenches home next time!Driving impressions to follow.Last edited by Flyswatter on July 2nd, 2010, 11:18 am, edited 2 times in total.
My first ride in Alabama on my waters was fun but challenged from this maverick of a hull. Its a speed demon and my very first WOT results is way past my expectations. I just came out of a 195″ PIV and loved it. My all time best PIV Summer speeds was 72.1 mph with a 200HPDI/25p Fury prop at 3.75″ below pad. To think I have a larger and heavier boat that has already posted better results by almost 1mph has me scratching my head marveling at Ricks work of art (Eyras hull). Todays WOT numbers has relevant future growth potential for faster speeds. I feel this boat can legitimately hit 74-75mph in 50° temps, pick your motor color. Whoop whoop!!! Driving Miss Daisy:This is no Sunday drive to church machine. Strap your arse in and hang on! Like Rick said up to 68 plus the Eyra is pedestrian above that chinewalk dexterity is front and center. Since I have not been in a boat for six months I was challenged a bit at the start but I was able to control the WOT Ride. Any challenges from the Eyra relate more to me being rusty and realizing that I overdrive chinewalking boats per Ricks observation back at the OI. Thats a good thing because I learned from my OI Eyra Ride. More work to do to develop my skills. Im comfortable in my skin and only will get better from Ricks observation. That said what a fun ride!!! Once under control exhilarating doesnt do this boat justice. Like Rick said the hull is a maverick. One other observation. You sit much lower in the Eyra then any other BassCat that I have been in. Actually, your are protected more from the wind with this ride more then any cat not including the Jaguar from my experience (havent been in the new Jag). Its a different feel (not bad) that in time Ill get used to. Again this is not a bad vibe comment but just different. To add perspective when driving the boat your eyes are at windsheild height for forward view.Putting the Eyra on the Trailer was a new experience. I might be wrong but you dont have to put the trailer in the water as much as I did for my PIV. Pictures to follow so you can see what I had in my boat today.Getting in and taking off!Center console CoolerMy trip back to the rampLast edited by Flyswatter on July 1st, 2010, 9:32 pm, edited 2 times in total.
Thanks for the post. I dont see the pics?
Great post Flyswatter! I too am curious with the 200 on it as I for one would not have an issue running a 200 on that Eyra. I know I am in the minority, but that upper 60s to low/mid 70s is fine for me.Keep posting and Congrats!Alan96 Eyra/12 Mercury 175 Pro XS with 2015 single axle trailer2017 Victory Gunner
Ill tell you what i like about the eyra with a200, and that is all the extra money i will have in my pocket( from saving all that gas and oil money)
I love this boats layout! What day next week do you think will be good for you Tom? Tuesday or Thursday look good as of now, unless you want to tee it up this weekend, probably not a good idea due to the 4th and all. Let me know, I am excited to see if I can break the 70 mph mark.Joe.Your Signature …
Impressive Tom on a warm humid day. So let me get this straight. You have a 20 boat with a 200HP running 73MPH in the summer? This boat is amazing.
Joe, I feel very confident you be a happy fast PII BassCater next week. Thursday looks good. YOu have my number call me Monday or Tuesday. Look forward to it.
Tom, I want to thank you for your detailed writing and pic posts. Keep us all up to date! Congrats! John

From my perspective this boat works great on all three motor platforms (Just MY opinion). Rick wants this hull to be available to the 200 HP market. Makes sense to me. I know I am one of many that is content going 70mph with a 20 boat. The game has changed now because BassCat has given us the motor option to do it with a 200HP ProXS, Etec or SHO. Pretty impressive to me. However the dominant player will always be the need for speed driver. In closing any future potential Eyra buyers please jump in and get the 250HP setup. However be nice and dont spray me to much with your rooster tail at take off because thats all Ill be seeing. Thank YOU Rick Pierce!!!!
