My 2006 Puma has tackle organizers in the 2 front compartments next to the net storage. I have found I like to keep my tackle in the bigger middle compartment and I use the 2 smaller front compartments for other dry storage. I would like to remove the tackle organizers to free up a little more room not like there isnt enough room already. I think these are factory installed and I am wondering if there is a way to remove them from the compartments? My second question is what is the best way to organize my gear in my boat for best performance? Is it better to keep the heavy items close to the rear or the front of the boat? I understand the load needs to be balanced from side to side, how about front to back? Thanks in advance for your help.
I also have a 2006 Puma and usually have all my hard plastic boxes in the front big box on the left and the soft plastics in same box on the right. I have played with moving my tackle to the rear compartments which makes the front higher but my ride is smoother with tackle in front. I leave the rear compartments empty for partners tackle and my towels to wipe my feet because I do not get in my boat without first wipeing my feet and towels to wipe down the boat after every trip. This is my preference.I also only fill my back two tanks. The very front on each side of the net storage is where I keep my rain suites on one side and life jackets on the other.
The tackle organizers are only glued down. They can usually be removed undamage by pulling them up by hand. Any boat will run faster by removing weight from the front and placing it in the back behind the driver. Once you learn how to drive, weight balancing from side to side is not that important as well.
I just peeled mine up. They are glued to the floor. It didnt take but a couple of minutes to remove them. I prefer the boxes without the tackle storage. I can fit more plano 3700s in them this way.
Thanks Guys for your help. I will be peeling those tackle org. out tonight. As far as the storage i assumed as much but i have only been driving bass boats for about 2 years now. Phil i see you post a lot on this board what do you mean when you learn how to drive the boat the side to side balance does not matter as much either. Can you provide me any tips to help give me a driving jump start. When i have an unbalanced boat it will lean to one side. If i get her going about 50 MPH it will level out a little but still not exactly balanced. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks again for all of your advice. Zak
Zak, The trim button should alleviate some of that list you are experiencing. Just trim it up a tad and see if that pulls most of the list out. BCB
In reference to the balance statement, the pad is very small on your boat. Once you learn how to balance the boat on the pad then you will experience no chinewalk and the boat will run level. It doesnt matter if there is 200 lbs on one side vs. none on the other. When I am alone there is approximately 250 – 300 lbs more gear on the driver side than on the passenger side. The best driving tip that I can give you is find someone that knows how to drive to teach/show you how. If not possible, then begin a slight pressure on the wheel once it starts to chine walk will help. Its not going to be easy and continued practice will cut down the time to learn how to drive.
Thanks BCB and PA, I have been working on the driving and am starting to get it down. It is amazing the extra speed you get if you can balance the boat in the middle. Before i would hit 69-70 MPH GPS and it would start to chine walk now im seeing around 72-73MPH GPS. This boat is awsome. I am thinking of ordering a 2008 however, i am not sure how long of a wait there is. Can this be a problem? The other question i have is about another MN dealer. In Minnesota our dealed is over 4 hours from the Minneapolis & St. Paul where i live. In addition the dealer does not stock many boats. Are there any plans in the works for MN. With the best boat on the market i am sure you could sell a ton in MN. Heck im in sales i will sell them. Just an Idea! Thanks again BCB and Phil This is realy like a family. ZM
The MN market is very limited on bass boats, and it would take the exact location and business model to thrive there. We probably wont be adding another one soon. On the delivery, right now we would plan on 4 to 5 weeks for delivery, and possibly shorter for some models on sold units. Most production now is inventory for dealers and not sold units which have priority over those stocking orders. Hope this answers your questions. BCB
I understand the dealership issues in MN. I am willing to go to Bobs in Hillsboro to order another if need be, Bob was great and there dealership fits right in with the BassCat family with the service they provide. It may also be easier now that i am trading in a BC and not a Skeet. BCB you have a customer for life. If i own a fishing boat it will be a BC no question asked. Have a great winter and hopefully i will be finalizing a new boat deal soon. ZM
