06 Puma corrosion problem

I do not know what this is or what is causing it. I cleaned the bilge area really well this past fall. I fish all winter and the boat is kept in the garage when not in use. The first picture is of the port side rear area of the boat underneath the hoses to the pump out, bilge, and the gas vent hose. It is burnt black like there was a fire back there. There is a pool of some sort of thick gooey murky substance that has leaked down the inside of the transom onto the bolts and nuts to the strap tie down cleat. You can see how they have been eaten up with some corrosive action. I have a new minn kota three bank battery charger and deka batteries but the batteries are good and I have not noticed or smelt where the batteries may be cooking during a charge. The starboard side has the same thing going on in the same area. This has just started happening over winter and I am concerned!

Looks like mold or something and there is definitely some corrosion. Also looks like the nuts on the Bow Eyes are corroded for some reason. BCB

Exactly, but I have no idea what it is or could be. I take it you have not seen this before? I open the lids when I charge and I use the boat often but I havent a clue what the slime is that is oozing down from above and is corroding the nut on the bow eyes for the rear straps. I just did discover this issue tonight. I will see how it cleans up this weekend. If its just a mold issue then it should clean up with out much of a big deal.

I wouldnt want to see a gooey pool of anything in the bottom. Something caustic is at least in vapor form in the sump which is mauling those nuts which.i assume? didnt look like.that 3 mo ago. Sources to me are acid from batteries, saltwater, hydraulic fluid. Gonna have to clean it all off and look for smoke trail of how “goo” is getting.there.C.O.D. Jr. III

Looks like a battery acid leak to cause that corrosion.

Had a similar problem on an older cat. Was told that the dark gooey stuff you are describing was a resin used in the hulls. Mine was a water issue seeping in around around the tie down u-bolts. Loosened them up siliconed good and retightened, never had the goo come out again. Not sure tho if it is corrosive or you might have another issue.

Thanks for the input guys. No battery leaks or exposions. The problem only exsists up under the 3 pump out discharge openings on the left rear of the boat where the top cap meets the hull. Its the same on the right rear too. The rest of the bilge area is normal. I am willing to entertain the thought of the black areas maybe being mold and I will find out this weekend. If it is mold then it should clean up. The pool of liquid goo leaking down onto the bolts is what realy has me concerened. If it is resin leaching out of the fiberglass what is the long term outlook of this happening and the integrity of the transom area? That area doesnt get a lot of air circulation when setting idle in the garage so I will start using a small fan to circulate the air when its in the garage between fishing trips.

Check into the next time you have it on the water open the back compartment and see if the back wash and waves are not washing water up under the rear rubrail. On my 08 Puma I had to take the rubrail insert out tighten the rubrail screws and reseal with silcone. Fixed the problem. Hope this helps.
