Im thinking about selling my boat. Its a 1998 Basscat Classic with a 2004 Johnson 175 on it. It has dual Eagle 320s, a MK Maxxum 74, brand new Interstate deep cycle batteries in it (less than a month old) and a everstart cranking battery thats about 5 months old. The tires on the trailer are about 8 months old. I had new spark plugs, l/u fluid, a water pump and impeller installed last March (09). Has a 2 bank charger. Had the prop refinished less than 2 weeks ago. Its got a hotfoot. Motor trim levers on the steering wheel. The boat looks really great for a 11 year old boat. I get compliments on it all of the time. It was garaged for most of its life. The motor has always had XD50 oil (synthetic blend) run through it. The motor cranks right up on the first or second start all of the time. Its the easiest starting motor Ive ever had. It does need a tune up. Right now, Im not sure why but I can only get it up to 5,100 rpms (supposed to be 5,700). Its been like that for the last 6 months. The mechanic Ive always sent it to and has done all of the work on the boat (Mike Halfmann the Boatmann whos a well known mechanic and has made a ton of posts on http://www.texasfishingforum) has told me that he doesnt think theres anything seriously wrong with the motor and that it just needs a major tune up. I will be more than happy to have the motor/boat checked out at your expense by any of the local mechanics in the Austin area. Right now, Im asking $6,900/OBOPls email inquiries to Z71yanke@hotmail.com. The boats in Austin, TX. Last edited by Toadhunter on May 7th, 2010, 4:39 am, edited 9 times in total.

Ditto
Thanks for the interest, von. You have a very good point. It can be a lot of money for most people, but maybe youre not really aware of or havent thought very much about what goes into buying or selling an used boat. Further, typically, one of those boat/motor check-ups will run you $100 or less, and you can actually get it done for free at a certain marine specialist in North Texas (God bless this great country and the very limited few and awesome boat dealers/specialists that are still around, which very well includes this fantastic company, Basscat!!!). That is for the peace of mind for “the buyer” so he or she has the best idea of what he or she is getting. Generally, serious buyers would want to do this and it is an encouraged practice anytime one thinks about purchasing anything used – you want an expert to check it out. I would suggest you do the same if you ever need to purchase an used boat or any other vehicle. Um, one additional thought… maybe you havent read a lot of websites but its kinda not cool to rip someone elses post just because youve had the simple idea of not agreeing with what someones selling. Maybe you dont realize this, but as the seller, I actually kinda have the right to determine what Im going to sell, as well the terms of how Im going to do it. You dont have to agree with what Im doing, nor do you have to buy what Ive chosen to place on the market, let alone, like the way Ive chosen to engage in this process.A good evening to you, though. Hopefully you get into your dream cat someday.Last edited by Toadhunter on April 22nd, 2010, 1:13 am, edited 1 time in total.
Not trying to stir the pot but how old are the pics???? you have a Johnson trolling motor on the boat and MK Maxuim 74 listed in the ad. I also think that it would be wise to have the motor compression checked and in top working order before trying to sell. IMHOGood looking boatElwoodElwood…..Bass Cat Proud

The pixs from when I first bought the boat. I dont have any current pixs but will take more this weekend. Yes, Ill check the compression and list the numbers this weekend, But really, Im not going to fix anything before I sell it. I dont want to put any more money into the boat. Im just going to be as honest as I can about everything related to the boat/motor/trailers condition and let the buyer decide if its something he wants or not. Thanks, tho.

The pics must be old because it also has Arkansas license numbers. Boat is in Texas right? Good Luck with the sale but I would have everything in working order before I tried to sell it. Potential buyers will beat you up on price if everything is not working properly. Clean it up and take new pictures. Side shot, rear, front, console, and motor.
Haha, yes, the pix is old, from when I first got the boat. I dont have any current pixs and thought Id just post something so interested buyers would have an idea of what the boat looks like. I will have new/current pixs up by the end of the weekend.
Took the boat out to Decker Lake. With me, my lady and about 1/2 tank of gas, the boat ran right up at 5,200 rpms just fine. I ran all over the lake and it was just like the way its run for the last 6+ months and probably 30-40 times Ive used it since then. Started easily. Idles smoothly. Runs smoothly. I just dont have full power for some reason. You can see the carpet below the seats is peeling away. It doesnt need to be replaced. You just need to scrape the old glue away, spray new glue, and reinstall that metal strip by putting in new pop rivets and Im sure itll be perfectly fine. Thats the only spot on the carpet thats a problem. The rest of it is still pretty good – not perfect, but theres no holes or seriously worn spots. Its a really good looking boat for a 11 year old boat and what Im asking for it, I think. Gel coats still shiny, etx…
This could make someone a good builder. Not a bad boat overall for the money from what we can see.
