Man I am tired of working my butt off to pay a so called “expert” to take care of my boat.I had him install a LCX 38c HD on my boat Monday and after work decided to head to the river to see how it works.Well as luck has it the GPS wont connect and figure well I really just want to see the sonar anyways. So I switch screens and in 20 foot of water Im reading 60 ft. So I get on the phone and of course everything worked great at the shop for him.Well I tried a few things that he told me and nothing was working so I finally just gave up and headed home.I made a few post on other sites asking what could be wrong with the unit and had plenty of guys that were very helpful.I started tracing wires from the gps antenna and he had it running to a T connector with a wire from the head unit on the other side leaving one side of the T open.Well I grab my book and see it should have a terminator on the open side and sure enough the gps fired right up.So now to the transducer problem I start looking at the placement of the transducer at the back of the boat. Now I remind you he does this for a living everyday.I realize he mounted the transducer on top of the metal base on my back seat pedestal. So I called him to tell him what I found and that I got the GPS working and he pretty much told me I was full of it.He said he had his book in front of him and that there is no way that terminator had to be on the T connector and the way it was is right. So tom. Im carrying him back the boat and hopefully everything is corrected and Im going to make sure the terminator is disconnected and let him show me how he did everything right. From now on I will be making a hour + drive to get my work done at a BCB dealer. So if any of you guys are good boat mechanics/riggers Shreveport really could use some help.Sorry guys I just needed to RANT.
Sorry to hear of your troubles Andy. Hope you get it all figured out.
This guy just seems a little shady the more I have been around him and I dont want someone i cant trust working on my boat.I didnt know enough about wiring but it seems nowadays you pretty much have to do it yourself if u want it done right.Im a young guy and just didnt think I could tackle the job but from now on I may have to try.And thanks BCB at least you guys are still doing things right.
Sounds like you need to cut your losses and quit letting him work on your boat.
After he corrects his screw up tom. My boat wont be back. All he has to do is pull the transducer and remount it so I am hoping he can handle it.
I had similar luck with one of the “big” dealerships in Shreveport…..now in Bossier……hint hint. This was several years ago but I was running Dads boat on the north end of Toledo Bend and ended up getting in some shallow water too quickly. I hit a stump dead center. The nose of the boat felt like it went 90 degrees until the lower unit hit the stump and brought it down hard. Dad had a low water pick up on his lower unit and this acted like a cheese grater and just filled up with wood. Also, the Detweiler jackplate had something messed up. It would raise fine but when lowering it would act like it was caught on something and then all of a sudden it would drop. I dug out all the wood I could but the tattle tail still was not putting out any water and the overheat alarm was going off.Well, I took it to this “big” dealership thinking they would know more about fixing the problems than the shade tree guys around the lake. I explained what happened and that there was no water coming out of the tattle tail. They called about a week later saying it was ready. Drove up there and they said they couldnt fix the jackplate but the overheating problem was fixed……made the stupid mistake of trusting them and not getting them to put it in the tank for me…..drove it all the way back to Toledo Bend. The next time out, guess what……no water from the tattle tail. I was ticked and drove right back up to Shreveport. They acted like I was being a jerk for bringing it back. They put it in the tank and saw that there was no water coming out. Took the cowling off, disconnected the hose from the outlet and the trash flushed right out of the hose, and then told me thats all I had to do. I told them that wasnt the point….they should have done that to begin with. Ended up taking it to one of the shade tree guys and he found a broken bolt on the jackplate and got it fixed in a day. Id hate to drive all the way to Monroe but it might be worth it to get to EKs Marine and get some BassCat guys to take good care of us. By the way…I was in the same situation as you when I wanted to add new electronics to my Sabre. I was nervous about doing it but I feel confident in my abilities to follow directions. I was able to get mine hooked up and mounted and it works. Trust in yourself. Take it slow and ask for help if you get to a point that you arent sure about. Thanks Toledo. Its just a shame that fishing and boating is so big here and cant trust anyone.I dont know of one dealership in town that you wont be making another trip so they do things right.
2 places around the Monroe area. EKs Marine in West Monroe and a little closer to you is Ludwig Brothers Marine in Farmerville. Both do great work. EK does cats and Ludwigs does the Ranger line, Ive had both do motor work for me in the past. Both are great options. Bryan 03 P4.
