Switching from Motorguide to Minnkota

Im guessing the holes from a FW71 motorguide wont match a minnkota fortrex.Is this right?If so is there anything I need to do to the holes that already are drilled?

They do not match. You can put a cover pad over the holes in the sandpaper style grip material or other method you prefer.

Andy, I just switched from motorguide to minn kota without drilling new holes. There was a thread several months ago that talked about this. If I remember right, all you have to do is remove the plastic left side cover plate of the mount to expose a different set of holes on that side that will match up with the holes already drilled in the boat. I changed mine with no problem, but you will need two people to do certain parts of the process. You can call me if you have anymore questions.Troy West225-937-2301

Andy I also switched from motorguide to minnkota fortrex and the mg holes will work if you are in the front of fortrex remove the left side cover plate on the minkota mount and there is holes ,works like a champ.

Andy, both the above post are telling you correct. The Fortrex mount is drilled to match MotorGuide holes. the “outside” set of holes is under the starboard side plastic side plate. Remove the front plastic piece on the mount that turns the motor, then remove the side plate and youll see the holes. Depending on which Cat you have, you may have to use the isolators used by Motorguide to raise the mount enough to clear the bow trim / accessories switch. The Fortrex has a $100.00 rebate offer now. Not sure what youre refering to as the bow pivot. part of the Fortrex or the boat??? I put one on a Cougar today, behind a Tour 82 and all lined up. Gator mount is drilled the same as other Motorguide mounts.Jones Trolling Motor Services870 773 3474Motorguide/MinnKota/PowerPole/Lowrance/Humminbird

It is the location of the bow cap on the troller bracket.

Thanks guys for all the help.I talked to Troy a couple times and he got me right on track. Put the mount on this morning and everything is perfect.Ill take some pics after everything is complete.Thanks again Troy for all your help.
