Hey Bass Cat or anybody else that lives up in that direction. Have a friend that has no access to the internet this evening. He has parents that live on the White River up stream from Reds Landing. Told him I would post and see what kind of response youll had as to how bad this is going to get. Guess they could loose everything when all that water gets released up there. I would think as long as youll have been up there you have seen this before. His parents have been evacuated and he is flying into Little Rock in the morning. Told him I would call him back this evening and let him know what to expect. Thanks Joey WattsLast edited by basscat247 on April 11th, 2008, 2:20 am, edited 1 time in total.
247, no one has seen this much water in these hills before. All new game here. We would think the river will flow out quick and by the time they release Bull Shoals the Buffalo River and Crooked Creek will be down some. We also heard from the Corp staff that Crooked Creek and Buffalo were only going to crest at 30% less than originally thought. So they may be fine? Though if they did not get water three weeks ago, they should not this time unless it monsoons us again.
Thanks, will make a phone call this morning and let him know. Joey
Thanks Joey and BCB. Folks called this morning and said they can;t drive into thier place but can see the house is still dry. They want me to hold off coming down now since there is nothing to do but wait and see what happens. They will probably need my help more in the future. What a mess the airlines are in right now. I would have had to catch a 9pm flight tonight from Salt Lake to LA to Phoienx to Dallas and get into Little Rock at noon Sat. And whats the chances of no delays. I can drive it in 22hrs. Thanks again for the update. And Joey Im still getting my jig order together just been a little hard to focus last few days. Rob. Also Joey, told my sister to get them a cell phone when she gets there. They have to be the only people in this country with out one!
I fished the river today and yesterday. Its fine.. NOT. I did actually try to fish it today…..Its uh bad. Worst combination of fast and swollen Ive seen in 10 years of watching it. Partner went to Dardanelle today. It sounds worse.C.O.D. Jr. III
With small craft warnings? Dardanelle is supposed to surge in the next 24 hours. Just a wall of water coming… Back in 1990-91, got a call from a friend and his dad saying that they were broke down on the Arkansas River. Had launched their new Tracker Tx 17 at Burns Park, off of the blacktop! Water was high and rolling, ramp completely underwater. He just wanted to show his dad his boat. Mercury quit working and they drifted down to the condos down by Cajuns Wharf, roughly 2miles. Calls from a persons home. Wife and I put the Sabre in and go to get him/dad. Current is so strong, turning 4-4500 rpms upriver and not moving. We launched at 6:45 pm. Got back to ramp at 10:15pm…. Oh yeah, PM! Pitch dark, with a spotlight on the Arkansas River while forests are floating past. Call me chicken when it comes to high water/small craft advisories. Call me dumb for doing that at night. Call me smart for at least having a BassCat. But if you get in trouble, call the Coast Guard auxilary……. Missed the NCAA national championship game that night, UNLV-DUKE.96 Eyra/12 Mercury 175 Pro XS with 2015 single axle trailer2017 Victory Gunner
Not a problem Robert and glad I could help out. Glad to hear everything is at least alright for the time being. Hopefully everything will work out for your parents and everybody else up there having to deal with all this water. Take care and no hurry on the jigs. Let me know when you decide and are ready for them. Joey
