Folks, We need to support this and we need to let Chris handle his end of this spectrum for us. He is an excellent ambassador for our sport and will represent us well. He is a former biologist with the Arkansas Game & Fish and is a good presenter. He will be professional in his approach. Here is his article from todays BassMaster. Critical Corps Meeting in Arkansas By Chris Horton BASS Conservation Director (Archive) Updated: January 16, 2009, 4:08 PM ET Comment http://sendtofriend.espn….0in%20Arkansas&id=3838892,sendtofriend,noresizable,noscrollbars,width=400,height=500);return false;”>Email Print BASS just learned that the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will be hosting a public workshop regarding their new fishing around marinas policy in Harrison, Ark., on Thursday night, January 22. The meeting will be at the Quality Inn Conference Room, 1210 US Highway 62/65 North.Recently, we posted an article that covered some of the history of this issue (Click here to read the story). Basically, we had an agreement in place, an agreement by the anglers, marina owners, state enforcement and fisheries agencies and the US Army Corps of Engineers, that allowed anglers to fish around marina facilities, provided they didnt fish within 50 feet of gas docks, marina stores or restaurants. In one of the most irresponsible moves ever by the Corps, they changed this policy about 9 months ago without even bothering to tell us. Now we cant fish within 50 feet of any marina structure. Marinas are effectively off limits to law abiding anglers. This is the worst example in many years where the US Army Corps of Engineers completely disregarded public input and implemented a policy that benefits one special interest group – the marina owners – over the American public that owns the water. The Corps is facilitating the privatization of public waters! As an angler, if this doesnt make your blood boil, you may want to check your pulse. If it does, and you live within driving distance of this meeting, you have an opportunity to let your voice be heard. If enough anglers show up for the workshop, it very well could be the catalyst for a favorable outcome for anglers.I hope to see you there.
Chris, hope you and your group can do some good on this subject. Have been following this from articles that have been published and from people that fought hard in the first round to keep our waters open to us, the anglers. Am sorry I live in Tx. so getting to a meeting like this is not in the picture for me, but I do fish ACOE lakes and that does bother me. The changing of the rules in mid stream with out any one knowing about it, to me, sounds like an I dont care about you attitude that should be addressed. As has been stated, “It is our waters” and beleive we should have access to these portions of the lakes. THANKS———–Good Luck and keep us posted BCB. pant 2 Bob
BCB correct me if i am wrong but is Little Rock the home office for ACOE for both our lakes? I was thinking it was but wasnt for sure. I assume this new policy is for both sides of the lakes Mo/Ar. Doesnt it seem like they have a little to much power. Im sure they are funded by us taxpayers arent they. Anybody from West Plains/Mtn. Home area going i could ride with or want to ride with me?Last edited by Luke on January 18th, 2009, 8:20 pm, edited 1 time in total.
Give me a break. Harrison meeting with 6 days of notice… If I wasnt gonna be in frickin canada Id drive up there myself. At least theres gonna be some forum on this… Thank you Chris Horton! I wrote a “not so nice letter” to Sen Pryor about this 4 weeks ago and his office forwarded the letter and requested a response in writing as well. The underhanded decision making that started this degrades all the good folks that work with us from the corps like lee bass, billy bowman, and nick mitchell! Lets look forward for the corps leadership taking up the opportunity to IMPROVE their standing among us.C.O.D. Jr. III
22nd is also the date of the Lake Ouachita Citizens Advisory Council meeting @ HS ? Wonder if Colton Dennis, Mike Armstrong, etc,,, are attending, or which one ? Also need to bring up to the USACOE their lack of effort on the Arkansas River project !!! Should have been finished years ago, but ran outta $$$$ ? RIGHT !
What time does this meeting start? I would like to attend and let alot of our locals know about the meeting.
I will pass this topic along to Colton so that he is aware of the situation!!
Anyone have a time for this meeting??
I called the Quality Inn and talked to Sandy. She said its starts at 5 PM… Hope that is correct…
Thank you to all who can attend. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.C.O.D. Jr. III
