Purchased used with 250xs has trim tabs and gauge.Runs great but I have noticed the JP sticks when trying to raise or lower.Up/down relays both work every time.Off the water I have to “nudge” the JP from top or bottom to get it moving.It seems to stick more at full up or down.It also seems to stick more on raising but that maybe coincidence.On the water seems to less issue but it did hang up last time out.I cleaned Rams with Dawn soap and water, pumped zerks full and tried to check Hyd. Fluid. ( Rams full raised-least pressure?). Since JP is at angle when I loosen yellow fill cap, fluid runs out. I assume it has necessary amount.Still I am inclined to think fluid is low.Any feedback on adding fluid?Any feedback on sticking

Had a Detwiler on my old Cougar. Worked great. But was a challenge to fill with fluid. Had to add a piece of hose on to a funnel, get another person to pour fluid in and put the filler cap back in really fast before it all ran back out. It helps to let the jack all the way down on the front of the trailer.

Thanks Ark! I lowered front but it still needs quite a bit more. Thinking pulling boat to steep down hill road and trying.Once JP a starts moving it works great.q

I had a detwiler on my puma.mine started acting up and what eventually happened was the pump went out due to water intrusion. there are 2 very thin O-rings and if the 2 bolts come loose at the top, it is only a matter of time before the motor will become rusted to the point of non-working.I replaced (you have to remove the engine) and then sold the boat.I am not a fan of the hydro jack plate.give me a fixed plate that is set up correctly and Im good.your results may vary.

They have assisted you on the actual plate you have. These are no longer a Detwiler and SeaStar bought Detwiler years ago. They have been through 3 full revisions and the present Plate is an excellent piece. Seems everyone still references SeaStar as a Detwiler and it’s important to note that it hasn’t been a Detwiler in almost a decade. The original design desperately needed an upgrade and redesign and the Preston design seems suitable. Bass Cat and Yar-Craft presently offers SeaStar, Bob’s and Atlas. They prefer either the SeaStar or Bob’s to the Atlas. The Atlas is the most accepted though the plate is two plates bolted together and BCB is not a fan of the setup. The Bob’s and SeaStar both seem to be more robust.

glad to hear of the revision. I didnt mean to lead anyone to believe that I hadnt been helped by bass cat, you guys have always been more than willing to help me but this was not even part of the discussion.anyway, if the pump design has been made better and you want/need the hydro plate, by all means, buy one or use the one you have. I can see the use for them but it just isnt a piece that I used enough to warrant the cost.
