I just bought 2003 Pantera 3 with 200 EFI Mercury. Currently has 25 Trophy Plus 4 blade. Prop is currently 4 inches below pad with Slidemaster jack plate. Slow out of hole and top speed about 64. Whats the best all around prop and height set up? Im thinking Fury 24 or 25 but dont know which one.
i run a 26 trophy on my P II hulls are different though. i would think a 25 would get you out of the hole just fine and the efi should get more top end than that. i would play with the jackplate and the plugs in the prop before i bought another prop.
My 2001 PIII has the same prop. It is the 2.5 liter EFI and had the same issue coming out of the hole. I eventually put a whale tail (which isnt recommended by BC) but this solved my problem of hole shot. I think my prop is closer to 3.5″ below the pad. My top speed has been 69.7 in 60 degree water but with 2 people and full tanks 2 weeks ago, I could only get 63 by GPS. Im thinking water temp (93 degrees), and added weight had a lot to do with this. The PIII is not a light boat to begin with so that affects hole shot and my engine is known for being anemic. Yours may be the 3.0 liter but your pushing quite a bit of weight regardless. I dont think Id be disappointed yet as you have one of the best rough water boats in the country. You could try raising the plate 1/4 inch at a time to see if it helps or hurts. Watch your water psi. Others on the board can tell you better than me on setups but congratulations on getting into the family. I am a Trophy Lover. However a 25″ Trophy is just too much on a P-III and a 2.5 liter efi. Most I know that run the p-IIIs settled on a 23″ temptest. Also with the advent of the Fury You may want to get your hands on a 24″ Fury. Most have reported a greatly improved Hole Shot with the Fury and the 24″ pitch may get you just where you need to be on top end. Top Speeds in the mid to upper 60s loaded to fish should be attainable with this hull. Its a very good riding boat and one heck of a fishing machine. Id be glad to have one myself but too bad you couldnt get one with a 3.0 liter efi on it. That would make a world of difference.Chris CoupelPaulina, La.Chris CoupelPaulina, La.
Put a 24 Fury prop on that P-III, youll be glad you did!
Fishmagnet,Are you currently running a 24p Fury on your PIII?,If so how is the performance.I have a 2000 PIII with a 200Opti on it and have bee thinking about going to a fury.I have been trying to find out what would be a better pitch a 24 or 25.Im currently running a 25p Tempest, getting some pretty good numbers.Id be interested in hearing how yours is set up.Thanks
I got a 99 P3 200 Opti and Ive been thinking of going to a fury as well. Would like to see some setups and numbers as well.1999 Pantera III 1999 200 Opti 25P Tempest Minn Kota Maxxum 70 2 Pinpoint 7520s
i think i would try a 24 fury or 25 tempest.
I run a 24 Fury during the hot, humid summer months to pick up a better hole shot in my azz-heavy 01 P-IIIMy 3.1 Yam V-Max 200 does fine in cooler weather with the stock Yamaha 25p prop, but with a full tourney load, full fuel, and partner in the summer, the Fury really kicks the hole shot up considerably.Top-end remains around 69 -71 mph, no real gain there, but hole shot is noticeably better, especially during the hot, humid summer months.Dont expect a top-end miracle, just a quicker bite and jump on plane with the Fury, plus, the mid-range punch with the Fury is impressive. The 24 spools-up quicker and will likely serve you better than a 25, though most feel they need to match the pitch with their previous prop….dont be fooled!
