heading up there this weekend (full moon is sat). planning on fishing midlake area. was hoping someone had been lately and could give me the dime store summary, and maybe some water temps.i promise to let em all go! i gotta feeling theres gonna be a few hawgs caught this weekend.
Hey buddy. I still have not been on the water myself. I had planned to fish a few times this week but with chores and weather I have had to put it off. The lake is at slightly over 171 and slowly rising. I live in Lanana Creek on the Louisiana side, mid-lake area and spoke to a guy that was fishing along my seawall this weekend. It was mid-afternoon and he said the water temp was 54. Weve had some cool nights since then but I would think that the afternoon temps would be in that same range. If I make it out on the water in the next couple of days Ill let you know what I find.Jim EbarbMany, LA (Toledo Bend Lake)2004 Cougar/ 225 OptimaxHumminbird Helix 12 Chirp SI on BalzOut Mount at bowLowrance HDS 7 at bowHumminbird Helix 12 Mega SI on Ram Mount at ConsoleLowrance HDS 8 in dash at console
Since you PROMISE to let them all go…. The bite is ON at DA BEND especially the southern portion. As TB said the water is rising and the cool noghts will probably drop it a bit. Six Mile area was 53-54 by 1:00 and we caught most fish between 11:30-3:00 all in the 4-5 lb range with the biggest 6.25. mainly caught on suspending rogue in the 6-9ft range next to deeper water. find some grass and they will be there trying to move up. Saw some baots with lipless CBs catching a few but they all seemed to troll by to see what we were throwing and then to the bottom of the boat to tie something else on. best color was sexy shad although the best ratltrap bite seemed to be on some red/crawfish and had a few on baby brush hogs florida rigged. i think the depth, time of day/water temp and the grass was the key though. good luck and post results when u get back since i cant go till the next weekendbrad
and in palo gaucho on the texas side. carrice creek used to be my honey hole this time of year. the higher water might help in that area. ill be chunking rogues, rattletraps, and spinnerbaits, probably. this weekend is setting up nicely from a weather standpoint. i just cant decide if im gonna do a fri-sat-sun, or a sat-sun-mon trip. watching the weather….heck, theyre predicting more snow tonight! this global warming is driving me crazy
I was planning on going up there Sunday, but i believe im gonna back it up to Tuesday through maybe sunday. I believe the La. Oilmans is friday & saturday. Lad and I had a great time in Palo Gaucho last year one afternoon, after crossing the lake from Negreet to PG with a northwest wind. Those waves bouncing off that big bluff on the Tx. side can get really big!!!Good luck, and let us know how you do,RonnieF
Let us know how it goes. Ill be there for a week in mid march with my family. We camp in Indian mounds every year. Beautiful place.
The water is still rising slowly as of today 2/24/10. According to weatherchannel.com we are going to have a pretty good chance of rain Friday but the weekend looks pretty good with highs near 60 and just some clouds, which should be better than a high blue sky after the front. Just trying to help you. The LOBI is only supposed to have 300 boats (I believe) so there is plenty of water for everybody. Im sure the typical areas will be crowded…..Indian Mounds, Six Mile and others. Heres a report posted yesterday from just north of the areas you like to fish but should be similar:Fishing Area: 1215, Lanan creek and San Miguel creek.Level: 171.13Water Temp 49 to 51 degrees. Generators: 1 Running 24 hoursPulling 6,754 CFS.Water clarity: Stained mostly all areas.White Perch: Slow. Weather has been so up and down in the past week. However there were reports a few fish being caught in shallow water over the past weekend on jigs and minnows In the back of the creeks. The brush piles have been producing a few nice fish on minnows in the 20 to 25ft range. When we say a few 10-15 is a great day. Bass: Fishing has been fair not catching big numbers but good quality. We have caught 6 fish over 5lbs and 2 over six pounds in the last few days. These fish were taken on rattle traps and spinner baits in Sam Miguel and 1215 areas in 3 to 5ft of water in the protected pockets. The best color trap has been burnt orange color the no# is RT46. The spinner bait has a terminator ˝ ounce with gold willow leaf. Chartreuse/white and red with gold strands. These two baits have been the most productive in the past several days. In addition there were reports of four fish over 10lbs caught since Saturday the largest being just over 12 lbs caught on a senko.Good luck and good fishing just remember the fish are biting somewhere and we are looking for that somewhere.Butch and Scott CovingtonCovington Guide ServiceJim EbarbMany, LA (Toledo Bend Lake)2004 Cougar/ 225 OptimaxHumminbird Helix 12 Chirp SI on BalzOut Mount at bowLowrance HDS 7 at bowHumminbird Helix 12 Mega SI on Ram Mount at ConsoleLowrance HDS 8 in dash at console
ill let you know how it goes this weekend. looks like rain on fri AND monday, now. ps…thanks.!
unfortunately. didnt catch a fish all weekend. partner caught one each day. ouch! water cold and rising, but real close to being perfect.
With the Temps that are coming this weekend, dont be surprised to see the first wave of spawners start to move up. The back of Carrice creek can be deadly but its got to be warm. Also the little coves on the texas side just north of the bridge. They are year after year big fish producers, especially if you get too them before the rest of Texas and Louisiana gets to them. I also really like the back of Patroon!! Its a long idle back there if you dont know the run but can be really good right now if there are grass beds near the creek channell. Ill be heading up in a couple of weeks which should be prime time spawn bite. Good luck to you and let us know whats happening.OOOPS, I just saw where you already went.
