Replacing bow roller

I need to replace the bow roller on my cougar, It basically disintegrated loading the boat this weekend and right now I have it rigged up with a piece under the boat and over the bolt so it wouldnt scratch on the way home. I need to replace it before I go to the lake again as it will probably really hurt something if I try to unload it like it is. How would I go about jacking up the front of the boat to get the bolt out and the new roller in while keeping the boat on the trailer.

If you have access to a forklift, run a long nylon strap thru the bow eye and up around both sides of boat. Attach to forks and lift. I did this at work with no problems. You really dont need to lift more than 1 inch or so. Your boat dealer would also be capable of this (for a small price Im sure). Also, if you can back your boat far enough down the ramp you could wade out to it, unattach bow strap, and gently lift bow off roller. Beach the boat and put a new roller on. Havent tried the one at the ramp, but I dont see why it wouldnt work. Good luck

Just back the pressure off the winch, and tighten the rear straps. It may get you enough to hold it in place. Otherwise a floor jack is pretty handy on the bow with a 2x block on the jack. There are other ways, and we dont do anything at BCB unless the boat has a high front storage load, then we use a floor jack.

thanks I do have a fork lift. That will be easy just to take a tiny bit of pressure off and raise it about and inch.

My Jag moves a little more than an inch when loosening the bow strap. I think I need to replace my bow roller also. I turned it around this weekend so the bad spot is away from the boat. Balata let me know how this goes.britt

The best and easiest time to replace this roller is when you come in from fishing. Takes about 5 minutes or less to replace the roller when the boat is off the trailer. Just carry the tools you need in your truck, change it out, and load the boat.Ron

Ive had three Cats and have replaced the bow rollers on the first two I had. When I released the pressure on the winch strap, the boat came off the roller enough to easily replace the roller. When I bought my current boat last December…I ordered a replacement roller, which I carry with me in the truck, along with the tools to replace it. I know I will have to do that sometime in the future.
