Breaking in the new Yamaha HDPI VMAX 200

I have yet to break in the engine on my PII cuz I got this boat last December and dang, its been too cold too long!!! I need to have the right answer before I break-in the engine. The mechanist at the boat dealer where I bought the boat said that I need to max the speed under 4500 rpm at first 4 hours then vary the speeds for the 2nd 4 hour – total 8 hours of breaking in but the manual said 10 hours (5/5). Which one should I go with? Is there anything else I also need to know? Thanks!

I know it adds an extra 2 hours to your break-in time but to be totally safe I would stick with what the manual says so that if there are any problems down the road it can not be blamed on improper break-in. If you want the motor to last do the break in correctly. First 2 hours under 3000. Next 4 under 4000 then vary your speeds for the next 4. Dont run WOT for more than a few minutes at a time after the first 4 hours. That is what I have done since 2001 on the eight Yamahas that I have broken in and I have never lost a powerhead. I truly believe how you break one of these motors in is in direct correlation to the engine longevity. Try to put as many hours on the engine the first day out. Bama, are Yamaha guys using the Synthetic TCW3 oils on the market to eliminate or help with Carbon issues? If I were with a new customer on a Opti or HPDI Id educate them fully on fuel filters, additives, and CARBON, just as important as Break In. De-Carb every year or 50hr intervals. Or Call Scott Brech at Brechs Marine for Yamaha Master opinions…BrannonYour Signature …

Yamaha has ring free in their oil. When run in conjuction with ring free in the gas, there shouldnt be any problems.
