Ive got no left turn signal or brake light on my Baycat trailer. Ive switched lights and it makes no difference. I do have tail lights and running lights on that side so I know I have a good ground. I got a new pigtail for the light, wired it in and still have nothing. I even switched lights from the right side and it wont work, but will work on the right side. I know I use the boat in salt water about half the time, so that is probably the issue. Short of running new wires from front to the back of the trailer, what can I do? As everyone knows who has ever had a boat trailer this is really aggravating. Ive had that issue and the issues with my battery wiring corroding. I really dont think this rig is ready for salt water.
Good info. Seems that some type of upgraded corrosive resistant wiring could be used for the Bay Cats. This will be my next boat, however I would use it mostly in salt water. That is disappointing about the wiring. That boat needs and aluminum trailer IMO and better wiring.
Ive got a painted galvanized trailer, with two coats of Gator Hyde on it, so Im not concerned about the trailer, at least no yet. But the wiring appears to be just standard wiring (although I have no clue what kind of wiring would be better) Im not a happy camper right now.
Billius, There is an easier way sir! Hook it up to your truck, and cross plug the rubber pigtail. You just make sure you have a ground through your ball on the truck, and plug a wire from a side you know is working into a wire that is not. Those pins are simple to cross plug. Turn your flashers and parking lights on to check things. Brown is tail lights. Yellow is the left. Green is the right. BCB
I had Problems with mine also.I had to replace my 6 way with a 5 cause nobody had one in my area.I had it where my rear taillite and side marker did`nt work also .I had cat send me new lites ,stilll did`nt work .I finally traced it to a connection where the fender is on the inside. The wires I have noticed, had probally 2 or 3 strands that were actually connected ,the rest were broke .Look at where they have them connected (where they splice the wires together in some spots).Mine looked like they were corroded and eventually broke. One guy told me to use dielectric grease when putting them together, then use car undercoating and spray on your connections where you splice them together to make them waterproof.I feel your pain and I don`t have to fish in saltwater up here in Wisconsin. Maybe this will give you or somebody an idea of stuff to do, I`m definately not a wire expert. Trailer wiring sucks. I wonder if somebody some day would come up with an all stainless steel wiring harness. I suppose if they did that then they would`nt make any selling guys like us who just seem to have great luck with trailer lites any money.
I guess Ill have to just take it someplace to have someone smarter than me figure it out. I did the cross plugging thing. I put the yellow wire from the trailer into the green wire on the truck and no lights. I put the green from the trailer into the yellow from the truck and the right side worked. So I guess Ive got power at the truck, but I kind of figured that. Im still no further ahead other than I know that Ive got power to the left side from the truck. I guess that is some progress.

Im really ticked off right now, just about ready to park the darn thing by the road and put a for sale sign on it. Love the boat, its great to fish out of but Im really tired of messing with wiring on it. Ive not even had it a year.
Have you checked the fuses. There are two sets. One under the steering wheel and one under the hood? There is a fuse for you left side and right side of a trailer.Last edited by Joey on September 25th, 2009, 6:48 pm, edited 1 time in total.
Thanks for the suggestion Joey, but I couldnt find any fuses that had anything to do with the trailer. I called the Dodge dealer and was told theres no such animal on my truck. Sooooooo…Im right back to where I was. Nowhere.
A buddy of that has a Dodge says cut the ground wire loose. Hes had the same problem..
