I recently bought a 08 Cougar FTD D/C and need a cover. I had an Aurora on my Pantera and it served very well but was pretty bulky. Im sure it is even more so on the Cougar. I also have the swim ladder to contend with. Do the Aurora and Deans covers adapt to that? Thanks in advance for helping me out with any “goods and others” gleaned from your past experiences.Cheers,JimOBTW…any color suggestions for Ole Yeller? Im thinking maybe red or black.
I have a Deans cover on my boat…its a fantastic cover. Youd need to call Deans to be sure but Im confident they could easily work with the ladder. Gotta go black on the color!!!Advantages are taken, not handed out…
Either cover in black. Either will need to have the info about the ladder when ordered.
Edwin and Phil…thanks for the input. After a second look I found a thread in the FAQ. There was some mention of the Deans cover causing some abrasion to the clear coat but the thread was several years old. Is that a problem still? So you guys think black instead of red to match the pins, huh? Thanks again.
The only wear points I can find from my Deans cover is on the corners of the windsheilds. Its very minor and 97% of the folks would never notice it. When youre dealing with a cover like Deans, I personally think theres most of the wear is caused by it being improperly secured (user error). I have two boats and tow between 15 and 20k per year, nearly all of it with the cover installed. No wear issues for me….ever. I have black covers on my rigs and couldnt be happierIm going to talk with the cover guy that made my ski boat cover. Its a unique design as in it has no straps along the sides…its been trailered 50,000+ miles without issue and only takes a minute or two to install. Advantages are taken, not handed out…
Aurora cover will accommodate the ladder if you order the cover that way. I try and travel with the cover on my boat if at all possible Aurora cover designed for that application. I do not know about Deans. The thing you will hear the most about is that aurora cover leaks and deans doesnt this is difference in material. Most of the dean covers I have seen are made out of Aqualon and auroras is mostly made out of sumbrella. The difference is Aqualon is water proof mat. but this has draw backs because it does not breath so if the boat is wet it will hold the moisture in which can cause mildew and mold problems. Now the Sumbrella material is a breathable mat. so their is a chance of leaking. Aurora canvas or Deans will work with you if you have problems. And for the rub damage this is generally improper instillation is the reason for rub damage as mentioned in a previous post. I built these covers for nine years so I have my preference but I will not talk down the other because I dont have any experience with them and I have not dissected one. But if you have any questions you think they are not answering to your satisfaction I will try to help.On color remember the darker the hotter underneath it, also the more dirt it shows. I would look toward the reds or Greys Last edited by badpuma on February 28th, 2010, 3:02 am, edited 1 time in total.
edwin, That looks like a Sunbrella material cover on your ski rig, and those are similar to Aurora. That custom aspect is good and the Sunbrella with your builder is a solid idea. BCB
Thanks all for the input. I appreciate the help.

I have had it reinforced a few times to handle the rigors of towing (Sunbrella does stretch a bit, Aqualon does not). The cover guy is located in the Pacific NW, so theyve only used Sunbrella due to its ability to breathe. I recently talked him into building me another ski boat cover with the same technique but using Aqualon. Advantages are taken, not handed out…
