Ive been doing some reading and have found out there are newer better pads that dont shrink or absorb adhesives that caused premature carpet wrinkling on many 08/09 boats. Also, initial adhesives were were not the right glues. The glue being used now is Gorilla glue with great adhesion success by OEMs offering this option. This info comes from dealers to warranty owners who were frank in sharing this fix with me on their 08/09 boats. I have received personal testaments warrantied padded carpets are wrinkle free to this day and owners are completely satisfied. Im not going to do this tomorrow but that sounds…. I have a custom made padded carpet as a top cover screwed snapped into my bow area floor. Although better then nothing its still pretty firm. When that day comes for me to re-carpet my bow area Im gonna give it a try. To Be Continued in the distant future… Also, perfectly understandable for those that are old school and satisfied with what works. Thats why some like red and others prefer blue.
We still have not found an adequate foam padding, or glue. We are also aware of competitive 2011 and 2012 models with carpet wrinkled. There is adhesion between the deck and foam with the Gorilla Glue mentioned or similar acetate glues, the issue develops on the carpet stretch and foam giving way ontop of that deck. In other words the adhesion between foam and carpet is the issue, not the deck to foam. That was never the issue in our minds.
I wonder why some who had issues with pad/carpet separation/wrinkling are now very happy with their warranty repaired padded carpet going out three plus years? Could it be related to installers? That thought does deserve some follow up. However, your experience on this matter is duly noted. Time is on my side.
Fly, of course you are welcome to revise anything, though we are not prone to installs which cause issues. Note that in your post the individuals had “warranty” work done and that is a cost to any company. In recent years BCB has revisited a previous trend to 2008 which was stepping up material quality at a considerable cost. Obviously this has been successful and we work hard to reduce warranty issues with costs associated on either side. In 2013 Seat Vinyl was improved and those costs were increased an average of 250%, just on seat vinyls. The positive side of this is that from our knowledge in 2013 we have not warrantied a single seat from vinyl tearing. Those seat vinyls will increase in 2014 by another 12% on our three most popular colors and 80% of vinyl yardage used. This is another enhancement for user enjoyment that will be released at dealer meeting. As much as BCB knows they want padded decks, they must be where the padding is going to last. With everything on a boat being general and subject to independent vendor issues, we try to reduce the potential for failures where we can. Less maintenance and less trips to the dealerships are our goals. Less Problems Per 100 units was something we strived for in the era of JD Power and Associates. We have continued that trend and are probably more focused on this now than we were then. BCB
I dont know what kind of foam is being used. Im just wondering if the padded flooring that is used in garages might adhere to the carpet better. Its a non issue for me as my back wont allow me to stand for long.
You want something indestructible that wont shear as BCB suggests then guys I would just buy one of these and carry it in the boat.We get all sorts of nasty on these and the one I use in one of my ORs I think weve used for 15 years.http://www.universalmedicalinc.com/Acti … /40103.htmThey aint cheap and they aint light but they will survive anything from a fisherman. I am only 32 but I hurt my back working a few years ago.Jeff, Im the Guinea pig type personality if there is potential to make my fishing experience better with a softer standing platform. Yep, Ill try at my risk. Like you I stand 80% of the day when I fish. My current top pad structurally is bad to the bone. It snaps in and will stay on 24/7 at driving speeds 75 plus and on the water speeds 68-72. It snaps in and out very easily too. However, what I have its just a tad to firm but better then nothing. If I could find material that had that spongey cushy feel and it would adhered to carpet that would be the solution for me. Someday, I will find the right padded carpet for my BassCat. Now dont read anything into this other then I want it, Im happy with BassCat and there are no negative vibes toward the family. I just want more bounce in my step at my age. Heres my padded batman wing below.
No fair! You got your own bat signal! Tom, I know what youre talking about with the bounce. Aaron and I fished this morning and I was amazed that I was able to stand for 4 hours….but my feet are sore and at my size I could use some cushion………96 Eyra/12 Mercury 175 Pro XS with 2015 single axle trailer2017 Victory Gunner
