Had a gas gauge alarm go off today on my 2011 Puma FTD. I was running down the lake at about 5400 RPMs and the data screen on my NexSys Tach started flashing “alarm”. I looked around the gauges and the gas gauge alarm LED was flashing and the gas gauge was cycling from full to empty repeatedly. I had both the gas selector switch and tank switch set to the left tank and the boat was topped off in gas. No engine problems, because it will still run 76 GPS. Any ideas here? Is this going to be a gauge issue, or maybe a gas tank float level issue? BCB, got any ideas?James

Check the wire connections at the tank before calling it a gauge problem.

Yeah, I did Phil. They are there and connected. The alarm part is just a distraction, I can live with it for a while.James

Is there fuel in the other tank? When the alarm goes off press the middle button and see if the alarm clears.

We suspect the sender though it is not common, and it could be a connection.

Phil, Yes, both tanks were topped off. I tried shutting the boat down, key off, didnt clear the problem. Switched to the right tank with no alarm, then back to the left, problems came back.I know it is isolated to the left tank, and I thought it was probably the sending unit. I just thought I would ask for direction before I sent it to Bowden for repair, because I didnt know if there was some sort of reset procedure. I am assuming it is the sending unit in the left tank, because the problem dissappears when it is running off the right tank.I will call parts and order a sending unit, if you think that is the problem!James

That is a shot at it, though it may be the connections on the tank wiring. We are more suspect to the wiring loosing a connection than we are the sender. The WEMA senders are that good and cost considerably more than Rochester senders for a reason. Our best guess still is a connection.
