Has BCB ever toyed with the idea of a catamaran type hull? I could see loosing center storage as an issue on a full cat hull but what about a half breed? My Puma front storage is plenty deep and actually some depth I dont use. Is it too expensive – more like building two hulls?Just curious.
Theres one made i think in Florida, a flats/bass boat that looks pretty crude by bass boat standards, heavy, wide, and not that fast. And very expensive. Also very close to name brand infringement, imo………..Thats probably as far as i need to go here.
Ive seen numerous variations of shallow drafting high performance catamarans for bay fishing. One was made down on the Texas coast that was extremely fast but I cant remember the name. Cool boats though. Little storage, lots of deck.
The issue with catamaran hulls for bass boats is similar to the original Speedliner tunnel hull that Hydra Sports (never sold one), Laser, Triton and Champion (not successful) tried to copy. They all thought that bass anglers would go for the tunnel hulls though somewhere the designers and developers were not overall bass anglers.Once you put them on a few stumps they do not work well. Try turning a tunnel or a catamaran hull around in a stump field on:Millwood Toledo Bend Ross Barnett Guntersville in areas Coal Pile Merisac Dardanelle Truman Santee Cooper Seminole Lake ForkSam RayburnRodman Pool (FL)Ouachita timber areasTombigbee WaterwayLivingstonLake of the PinesCooperBeltonConroeMark TwainPotomacJames RiverChicahominy Lay LakeAnd many more reservoirs with stumps. The nice thing about oceans and tidal water is that they do not have stumps that grew as it was always water. Though in reservoirs and river tributaries there are stumps (trees) before those dams were built. Thus the catamaran hulls are not very good for most bass fishermen. Even if they have tidal waters with old piers and docks moorings you can hang on.
There is one of these near me that is out every year for stripe bass run on the upper Hudson. Runs two outboards and puts off one hell of a wake! Looks pretty cool and gets up to speed fast for a larger boat.
I didnt see Lanier on that list! I had sort of thought of that. Not with stumps but manuvering around with the trolling motor may be somewhat unresponsive.
