Not fishing related, but it will protect my Cat. I am looking for someone to sell me alarm equipment for my storage building. I got a quote from a local company and just about passed out. I have a 1200 sq/ft, 1 room shop. 5 Windows, 1 standard garage door and 1 service door. I was looking for 1 360 degree motion detector in the middle of the room, one on the wall by a gun safe and wired door devices for service door and garage door. I was sorta interested in a key fob arm/disarm feature also. Can anyone help. Thanks,BrittSC
There is always ADT , usually installs cheap or even free , but you will have monitoring fee
I installed my own alarm in house/garage and you can monitor through your own cell phone. Very easy to install, is wireless. Check it out at: http://www.alarmsellout.com
Thanks. I was trying to keep it simple and affordable. Didnt really want a monitored system. Parts shouldnt be to expensive. I really dont need much. Thanks for the link.Britt
I have found that your best bet is usually your top local company, ADT and others like them will be a cheap install, but the monthly monitoring fee will be more. A good example is on my vacation home ADT would have put in the system for 99 bucks but then charged 49.99 a month monitoring fee, the top local company in that area was 1,000 bucks to install but only 20 bucks a month monitoring. Over 3 years it is almost the same cost, but then the savings of your local co will start to show. Check and see who is the alarm co on the local sporting good stores and most banks in your area and that co will usually be your best bet.
The one I have is Model STS-407, you can get Motion Detection, Smoke Detection, Heat Detection, Carbon Monoxide, Gas Leak detection, vibration shock sensor, etc. I think you would be very pleased as I am, and no monthly fees. You can program to call 6 to 8 phone numbers. Ive had one for about 6 years with no problems at all, no false alarms, very reliable. Cost for one is unbeatable.
I have a great company, have used them before. They just wanted $1500 for 2 motion detectors, 1 smoke detector, 2 door sensors, siren, alarm, key pad and key fob. I just felt this was a little high. It appears to be about $500 in parts. I dont mind paying for things, heck I got a Jag. I just felt $1500 for such a little job was a bit much. Britt
Simplex-Grinnell in conjuction with Honeywell was very good for us but that was a commercial set up. There is always Time-Warner if they are in your area or ADT as previously mentioned. Ive also worked with local companies who can be good if staffed properly. Note security systems usually arent inexpensive as youve already found out (though $1500 for the equipment mentioned is pretty reasonable, at least around here). May be cheaper just to really secure the building. Bars on window, reinforced locks/doors. If you go with a motion detector, you shouldnt need more then one if the shop is open space and its mounted reasonably high on the wall in a corner. A decent sensor is pretty sensitive and wont take much to set it off. You may be able to have hooked up to lights too so if something triggers it to activate all the lights in the building come on. That will scare most scumbags off in a heart beat should there be a break in. . Keep in mind many security sales guys like to sell lots of equipment/services. If they start telling you that you need this and that and the other thing before they even discuss what your trying to secure and why, its time to talk to someone else. First questions a good security rep should be asking is who/what are you trying to protect and who/what is most likely to propose a threat to you, your staff, or your property. Good luck.BrianLast edited by schodackbassman on January 18th, 2013, 12:04 am, edited 1 time in total.
Go local and get non-proprietary system. You can choose whether you want to monitor or not. I pay $200 a year for my monitoring a choose whoever to monitor..
Stay away from ADT. Stay Far Away. Go with a local company with home town service and connections. The monitoring rates on my home and business is less then $200 a year for each and that includes smoke detection. If I have a problem I can call someone that wants to keep me happy with their service. Kinda like BCB.
