2010 and later models have a rubber pad on the side. It actually has worked out better than was anticipated. The rubber matting does shrink some, though the PWC (jet ski) market has fought the battles of the neoprene and rubber matting for decade. Lately they just rivet or fasten it on and let it shrink.
