I have located a brand new Sabre FTD, but it lacks one or two things that are must haves and I would like to know if they can be added. First, the boat has a single console…Is it possible to add a passenger console after the fact or does it have to be done when the boat is built? Bolt on? Is it possible to add the step/pole to the trailer after the fact? The boat currently has a Mercury 150 Pro XS…would I be better off upgrading to the 4 stroke? I really dont mind the 2 stroke, but would like opinions. What kind of speed can I expect out of this rig with what prop? I am partial to 4 blade props for the hole shot and handling. Has this boat been tested with the Fury 4? What prop is generally shipped with this rig, and what size jack plate would be on the boat from the factory? Its hard to tell from the photo if its a 4″ or 6″.This is a beautiful boat…dark colors, which I prefer.Advice would be helpful!2017 Sabre FTD AE DC2017 Yamaha 175 SHOMK Fortrex 80Helix 10 Mega SI in consoleHelix 7 GPS SI GN2 on bow
A second console can be added, so can the step and pole. Whether the ProXs or the 4 stroke is up to you. There are probably advantages to both. The jack plate would be an 8″ plate. As far as speed and prop, I dont have those answers. Check with your dealer, they will have answers to all of your questions. I am also sure folks will chime in here with answers as well, as will BCB. Good luck!
Running a 2011 Sabre FTD/Optimax 150 with a 24 Fury. Have tried the Trophy Plus but was not pleased with it. Love the optimax motor. Full throttle consumes 13.8 to 14.1 gallons per hour with a top speed of 65-66 solo and 62 with a partner fully fueled. Agree the step and poles are must haves. The e-ladder did not work well for me on a PII but works great on the Sabre FTD. A boarding ladder might be better. Wont tell how I know how the e-ladder works.
This one has the stainless boarding ladder…Im getting old and need the balance that the pole/step would provide when fishing by myself, and climbing up the foot of the motor is NOT fun with wet clothes on. Dont ask me how I know that…;-) And I was much younger then.Great to know about the second console…Ive always preferred the look and my partners appreciate it when its 30 degrees.2017 Sabre FTD AE DC2017 Yamaha 175 SHOMK Fortrex 80Helix 10 Mega SI in consoleHelix 7 GPS SI GN2 on bow
The console and grab post can be added. We dont think the four strokes have an edge on 2 strokes.
Thanks…I am torn between the DC margay and the sabre ftd…deck looks a little bit bigger on the margay. How many inches difference on the ftp?2017 Sabre FTD AE DC2017 Yamaha 175 SHOMK Fortrex 80Helix 10 Mega SI in consoleHelix 7 GPS SI GN2 on bow
If you do a search in the forum, you will probably find lots of information regarding the Sabres performance. The common theme you will read about is they are a blast to drive. I dont know if change from a 2 to four stroke the same HP would be worth the cost. Money better spent would be upgrading to a 175. You could then choose from a 2 stroke Merc or 4 stroke Yamaha SHO whos performance is close if not as good as a 2 stroke. But if you are going to go through all that, Id think it might be easier to just order new and get all the features/colors/motor you want. Just an suggestion.
I have colors in mind, but these are colors I like (I think), and its there, time to get a decent deal, and it has a few extras. Its got a black boot (bottom), slate hull (sides), a midnight mist bolt with silver mist pin stripe, a midnight mist cap (including console color), with silver mist for the cap inserts. Midnight mist fenders, black trailer, x5 motor guide, single axle with Roque wheels, strapless cover, helix 7 SI on the console, helix 5 on the bow, which I will upgrade to a 7 DI so theyll talk via ethernet. I would just need the console, slight upgrade to the bow graph,.and the step/pole. Colors I would like. My mid 90s Pantera I I was midnight silver all over, except the bolt, which was burgundy, with silver pin…same insert and pin on the top cap inserts (burgundy and silver…the Siluette option, I think). So I like the colors, I think. Have never seen the midnight mist color, but Ithe sounds like it looks good…advice on the colors on this boat…like they dont play well together? Ill order one otherwise, though it would be back bottom, Malibu silver or Malibu red on sides and cap/console, Burgundy bolt with silver mist pin, then burgundy inserts on the cap inserts. Dont want a dual axle trailer…looks nice, but this boat is not heavy enough to really need the extra axle…and this one has the pivot tongue.2017 Sabre FTD AE DC2017 Yamaha 175 SHOMK Fortrex 80Helix 10 Mega SI in consoleHelix 7 GPS SI GN2 on bow
Where are you located? I picked up my 17 FTD in November and just absolutely love the boat. I am in Mobile so if you are close or down this way we might can get together and take it out. I am running the 150 proxs with a 24 tempest plus. Whole shot is amazing and the best I have seen so far was 70.6 by GPS. with a very light load and half tank of fuel, live wells full, but a consistant 65-67 depending on load fuel state and livewells empty or full. The only time I have seen under 65 at WOT is during breakin. I havent played with the jack plate or props so there is definately some more to be had from this rig. Iam happy with its performance so far so why change it. I will recomend getting the tilt helm it makes getting up and down a lot easier and the blinker trim.
Wow, that 150 must have been mislabeled as those sound like 175 speeds. Typically the 150 sabres are more in line with the other poster and 66 is where they run solo, thats what Ive run with my 4-stroke fwiw OP. 64 with a partner though not a big boy, though I do have dual console. The 2-strokes generally run 23″ tempest props from what Ive seen and the 4-stroke a 24″ as it has steeper gearing, hope that helps.
