Looking at an 08 Pantera Classic Need Help

I hope to be part of the family shortly and would like to know if an 08 Pantera Classic will perform well with an E-Tech 150 HO? Budget is an issue and my only alternative is to go with a Sabre. If someone could post expected top speeds with 2 people and light load that would be great.

It will perform fine. Back when BASS required no more than 150 hp, everyone ran 19 foot boats with 150s.

low 60s with your load. as Scott pointed out, that combo was the ticket only a few years ago.

I would not suggest a Pantera with a 150. If you have a budget why not look into a 1 or 2 year old boat with tons of warranty left, all the electronics you want and a 200 hp engine for thousands less than a new one. Shoot you could even get into a one year old P2 for thousands less than a Classic. I would much rather do that then have a under powered classic. Just a thought.God Bless, Stephen

The 150 DP model of Evinrudes E-Tec coupled with a good old fashioned 24 Raker will do a fine job. They can run into the 60 MPH range and we all ran them considerably on the old BASS Tournament boats. They were heavier as we were T loaded in T boats, and the engines turned a few more ponies, though they did a fine job and the newer engines will also perform acceptable. Today they will run from upper 50s or so on most set ups, and can breach into 60+. BCB

It will without a doubt be fine as mentioned above. But times have changed and I would opt for the Sabre FTD…for one reason only and that is resale. It will be harder to sell a post mid 90s Classic or PII with a 150 on it. Good luck. Judd Lasiter

I also agree with Judd. Think resale. It may be fine for you, but what will happen when you try to sell it? Much like custom choosing your colors and going with purple, green and yellow. It might look cool to you, but how about the rest of the world? While the 150 will be adequate to power a classic, how many 1998-2008 Panteras do you see which have anything less than a 200? I just sold my Classic and before figuring a price, I did extensive research on the Internet looking at every used classic I could find. I did not find one used post-1998 Classic powered by less than a 200, and only two new Classics, one rigged with a 175 and the other with a 150. I believe the 175 hp rigged Pantera was left over from 2006. For the price of a new 150 powered Classic, I would look for a slightly used Classic or the Sabre FTD.Last edited by jlg309 on March 24th, 2008, 3:54 am, edited 1 time in total.

Dont forget that folks often keep a Pantera Classic for over a decade and that it is a nice compromise on horsepower you would accept for a smaller boat on a larger boat for cost reasons. We totally understand his reasoning, though we also will say we see higher satisfaction levels from rigs with matched horsepower and we are very big on Customer Satisfaction as you know.

I ran a PII with a 150 and had no performance problems, I didnt expect it to be the fastest boat out there, and it sure ran nice. You shouldnt have any issues once you get it propped right.
