I was out on the lake friday and my motor acted like it sucked some water up in the gas. It cut out a little bit and finally went on and opened up, the guages never lit up during my run back up the lake. I stopped and fished for a while ,got ready to leave and my service engine light came on iguess it went into guardian mode or something. I went home changed the fuel filter ,drained the gas and replaced with fresh went back and tried it again,same thing! I dont think it is the fuel, any suggestions? my motor is a 99 optimax,225 merc

Could be a number of things from fuel problem, to ignition, compressor, to computer. May even be spark plugs. Do you have smartcraft? If so, what do they say? Otherwise its only a guesstimate. Good luck!

I finally dug around and found my owners manual and the light that came on showed it to be anything from injectors ,throttle , coils or voltage. I know it isnt voltage due to the reading on the dash. Im guessing it is time to go to the shop to find out. i do have a hotfoot but i dont think that is it either because it hasnt gave me any trouble in the past. Probably ignition im guessing?

Hey sturkiebass, That sounds a lot like what happened to me a few years ago. And just recently to a friend of mine. Both times it was the trottle positioning sensor. It had come loose or something. Hope this helps.

There is a small LED light on the front of some engines that lights when there is moisture in the engine. It is very faint and extremely hard to see it light. Though it is there and does light on some in this age range.

I just got my boat back today,and it was determined to be a bad coil on #1 cylender and the censor on the water fuel seperator. Wheeewww, not as bad as i thought. Took it out for a spin on the way home and my gosh she will fly!
