OK guys,Sorry for all the electrical posts this week but Im trying to get rid of the electrical gremlins. I may still have a charger issue but Ive determined I have a bad starting battery at the least. It shows 12.7 volts when I take it off the charger and 12.2 the next day. So Im sure its gone. Im going to replace it with the Sears Platinum P1 based on the recommendations here. Please verify the following for me.It will fit in the 2006 upgraded aluminum battery trays. It can be charged with a 2006 Cul M rite Pro Pak III.It can be used as a starting battery and trolling motor batteries. If you would not use it for the trollers then please make a recommendation. I want the gremlins to go away. Thanks
I am going to learn something here too RJ. I would assume some drop in voltage in 24hrs secondary to parasitc draw from motor or other devices. To know if the battery is holding charge I would have to disconnect it from everything before I made judgement on loss I think?Maybe you did disconnect all wires from it after fully charged?C.O.D. Jr. III
No problem Ward,Well be learning together. More info than you probably want or need to know but…I didnt disconnect them this time. To your point I think the only real way to test it is to disconnect the leads and take specific gravity readings. I cut that step out because in my case, I took the boat out and had the motor drag when starting, the battery charger acted funky when I brought it back and plugged it in (all lights turned green in 15 minutes after 6 hours of fishing in the wind) and the voltage dropped from 12.7 when I took the charger off to 12.2 over night. Id read in other places a drop that steep that quick indicates a bad cell. I believe a fully charged battery is around 12.73 and 90% would be 12.62. So 12.2 is obviously headed the wrong way after 24 hours. I think I got off on the wrong trail chasing the charger becasue all 3 lights turned green on all banks instead of just the bank serving the starting battery. I dont know enough about it to know if thats normal but I would have thought the two banks serving the trollers would have stayed red if they werwe Ok. Maybe one bad battery makes the whole charger act crazy. Or, I may have a problem with both the charger and the battery but felt like changing the 3 year old starting battery is the lesser of two evils when choosing a place to start troubleshooting. Its on the small size anyway. Looking forward to the feedback. ThanksRJRJ
I have an 07 Cougar FTD with 3 PM-1s. Two in the two place alum battery tray and one in the single tray. They can be used for everything and they are bad azz batteries. Sears run some crazy midnight online specials at times. Keep your eyes open for great savings.
I dont have the same batteries that you are asking about but my dual aluminum tray had a spacer in there that can be removed to give more room for the big batteries.
SGT93,How does the addtional weight of the PM1 affect the performance of you boat? Do you notice a difference? They are listed at 75 lbs each. I think the PM2 is 53 lbs. Thanks
You only need the excess batteries on the cranking battery, then do what you want with a good battery on the trollers.

ThanksMy rig still hauls the mail quickly. Faster than any other 225 Opti that I have heard actually. It takes quite a bit of weight to make a difference. I saw Sears had another midnight sale a few days ago. Prices change nightly with these sales. Sorry for the late response but I rarely follow posts. I would buy without hesitation.
