Im looking into a new boat. Im having a hard time deciding what I need. Right now, I feel like I have two decent choices. I could get a brand new Margay fully loaded, with power poles, better electronics, etc… Or a more basic Pantera 2. Not sure if i should sacrifice HP and size for loaded accessories. I like both layouts and boats. Ive only owned a very used 1995 stratos, so either will be a major upgrade. From your experience, would you rather have a more basic, but bigger and more powerful boat, or a fully loaded smaller boat? Help!
A little more info would help some give more advise. Are you primarily fishing for fun or do you fish in a club or tournaments? Do you have children that will be fishing with you where more room would be beneficial? Do you routinely fish big waters that can get rough or primarily calmer waters? Personally, I started more basic and added accessories as I could. Heck, Im still adding. Even a basic rig comes pretty well equipped for the average fisherman. If you are more into club/tournament fishing and feel you need all the power poles and electronics right off the bat, then there is nothing wrong with a smaller boat but most would prefer a bit more room. I had a Sabre (18 feet) for 18 years and fished tournaments with no complaints other than I did get beat to some spots and sometimes it got a little cramped with 2 anglers and their tackle. A Pantera 2 with a 200 will have you running with and sometimes passing the 20 footers with 250s. You will get lots of opinions and advice but ultimately it will be your decision. You have already made the best decision……. Ill be fishing tournaments! Im a club guy and will be getting into weekend series/BFL stuff soon. Usually its only me and a partner I dont know, not really any family or kids. I think the added power would certainly be great. I know I can always add accessories, but cant add length or power. Its just very tempting to have all those nice additions off the bat!
Where are you located… I know of several nice Cats for sale with LOTS of features…email me if you think you might be interested in a used rig…bucknbass.case@yahoo.com
I think since youre fishing TXs you will want the room of the PII. You can always the accessories later but if later wish you had that bigger boat then youre back to the drawing board again. I love my PII :^)
I would get the PII given the info you have. As stated accessories are easily added on later. You will be very glad you went with the PII when it is all over with.BrianBrianHAWG Hunter2013 BassCat Eyra2013 Mercury 250 Pro XS Gen2 L/U
No question to me, Id go for the PII, you can always add bells and whistles later.Jason Ferbrache – Edmond, OK 1995 Basscat Eyra
Thanks so much for the advice guys! I have heard the same things from other friends. You can add features, not length and power.
You could always get the Classic . — That way , you get the lightweight of the Margay , with the Length of the Pan 2 . — Hang a 200 on the back of it and I know youll outrun alot of bigger boats with the 250s on them . — I sure do like mine . — Mark
I would get either a Sabre FTD or a Pantera II
