Recently upgraded from a propak charger to a Minnkota precision 10 amp 4 bank. Also updated my sears PM-1 cranking battery to a fresh odessey AGM.Issue: I cannot get a full charge from the precision charger on my AGM starting battery. Charger will sit on for 24 hours stay at bottom charge level on precision unit indicator, then turn red issue light and turn circuiton off after a full day of charging. The 3 trolling batteries will indicate fully harmed. Voltage at AGM battery is 12.5 post charging with volt meter. Charger circuit is set to AGM.I have tried flipping circuits, originally #1 was starting battery, tried flipping with #2. Same results. Took battery back to dealer presuming it was dead, load tested at 1000 amps and it held voltage. The said it’s fine. When either 1 or 2 circuits are charging battery gets hot so does the charger in the area if circuit in use.The charger has no issues with my 3 trolling batteries. All charge up in 5-6 hours, indicator lights on charger move correctly and the charger does not get hot. Even when I flipped 1 and 2 circuits same result.Anyone have suggestions on how to fix?
Definitely something going on. That Odyssey should measure 12.84 when fully charged after surface charged has dissipated. That MK charger is on the list of approved chargers for Odyssey, so it should be able to bring it to full charge. Have you tried putting all four banks on the crank battery so it effectively gives 40 amps? ( Check with MK first to make sure it is ok to do this. With mine, it is). Or, have you removed all connections from the crank battery, except the charger, to isolate for charging so there is no possibility of parasitic draw?Connections all nice and tight and clean? Are you using the correct gauge extension cord as that particular model is very sensitive to voltage variation?A suggestion for you. Catfan and Lou over in the BBC electrical forum are experts with these Odysseys. Put a post over there.
I have not removed the connections off the battery, good suggestions. I do have a disconnect from the positive to downstream circuits which is off. Everything is tight. Charger is plugged directly to wall outlet, no extension cord.
Hummm….Im up grading the electronics on the bow of my 2012 Cougar – Helix 10, Ultrex I-Pilot Link (80) and the 360 for the Ultrex.Since I installed the Helix 10 it shuts down when I start the big motor and it will also shut off on its own (wiring? Not enough battery?). Im using Optima 31M Blue Top currently. Im considering installing a Odyssey PC2250 to run the electronics and starting. and a PS3 Pro Series 3 bank charger for the Odyssey.Am I OK with the set up I have? Or is the Odyssey/PS3 the way to go?Ps – Ive been told the the issue of the Helix 10 shutting down when I start the motor is that it needs to be wired direct to the battery instead of to the power cable at the bow. As far as it just shutting down on its own ????
Invest in a Extreme Charger by Pulse Tech and leave those charging woes behind. Now if lithium, I use those batteries now, go with a PC based MK charger and life will be good.

bet your batteries are inadequate. Optima batteries will not get the job done. With electronics you have to look at the RC rating of the battery. Cranking, I am assuming you have a big ole merc, which requires a minimum of 1000CCA.

The owner manual online will tell you how to change the battery type mode.
Sabre03 – Yes. The battery charge type was correct “AGM” when I tried both Bank #1 and Bank #2 on the main battery
Have you called Odyssey technical support? They have very good customer service. MK also has good c/s, but I would call Odyssey first.
